I think (and someone will correct me if I'm wrong) this was a partial concert taken from a radio broadcast. If you add it up and figure in commercial breaks, this would fit neatly into a one-hour radio slot, and I remember long ago on some Styx website hearing about a RoIO version of a show that sounds like this one.

Would have jumped on this of it had "Castle Walls" on it. Now, not so much.

I saw Styx on The Grand Illusion Tour in March of 1977 with Prism opening. Best concert of my life.

Don't think its a boot as its being sold in Sainsbury's supermarkets which is a major UK retailer, similar to Wallmart....that was where I got the info. from!

Maybe it's an exclusive for the chain?

    Sainsburry is selling boots?

Perhaps one of our Narcs should report them to the RIAA

I have an in-studio FM broadcast (in front of a small crowd) that I suspect is the same thing here.

They’re not bootlegs, they’re “recordings of indeterminate origin.”

I saw them on this tour as well. Angel opened for them. The setlist was a lot larger than this one, i know they did Crystal Ball and Suite Madame Blue.

The broadcast I'm thinking of is from Mantra Studios in Chicago. It's 77, but I don't know the exact date. It's an abbreviated set for the broadcast. Here's what they played:

    The Grand Illusion
    Lorelei
    Mademoiselle
    Fooling Yourself
    Suite Madame Blue
    Light Up
    Come Sail Away
    Lady
    Midnight Ride
    Miss America

^As far as i can remember, when i saw them in March, 1977 in Ottawa, Canada, they played the set you have just described.

Maybe not a bootleg in the legal sense, but is it authorized by the band?

A bit of a side issue, but I have the GI and Po8 recent tour ... I was rather disappointed

Apprently, they never played Castle Walls back then?? Too bad... It's my fave track on GI
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

Ugh, they were still doing that awful "22 Years" in 1977, long after Curulewski left?

That makes no sense when they had much stronger material like "Castle Walls."

I always thought they put together their setlists very well...that's a blemish though.

Looks to be a boot label, rather than a legit release. I've definitely heard this recording before, and it was in front of a big crowd.

How do you know you've heard a recording that isn't identified? Or did I miss something? There is an FM recording from Kansas City (I think) that is quite good, and in front of a large crowd, although brief.

Because a live recording from this tour with this exact same setlist has been floating around for years.

So, which show are you referring to, then?

I had a RoIO with the exact same setlist that was ostensibly sourced from a radio show reel-to-reel tape. I cannot seem to find it, but I do remember the gig being claimed as Chicago (you can find the torrent on Yeeshkul, but it appears to be a dead one with no activity). It is incomplete, but as somebody observed, the run time suggests that it would fit into a hour-long radio show. I'd love to get my hands on this again. I wonder if the version selling in Sainsbury is the same or a further cleaned-up verision? There is no mention of it on the official Styx site though.

One other thing ..... best indication of dubious origin is mispelled titles ... in this case 'Sweet' rather than 'Suite'.
