Thread: New album from ZOMBI

    New album from ZOMBI

"Relapse Records proudly presents ZOMBI's new album, 2020. Their first new album in 5 years, 2020 showcases the songwriting prowess that has pushed the duo of Steve Moore (synthesizers, guitars, bass) and A.E. Paterra (drums) to evolve throughout their storied, 20 year career. ZOMBI has strived to build upon and expand their sound with every release. Now more than ever, the band stays true to their ethos."

    No brainer for me!
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.

    Ditto for me!!

FWIW, for those who might want the album and some swag, the Relapse site has some bundles that save you a few $$ over the individual BC prices.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I just got 2020 couple of weeks ago and also got my whole Zombi collection replaced since at some point between 2013 when I moved from Ohio back to Puerto Rico and 2020 (I moved from my hometown to another city and back) my copies of Cosmos, Surface To Air, Surface To Air and Escape Velocity "disappeared". I was lucky I found them all on eBay, adding in the process Shape Shift and 2020. The new album is awesome, it is me or we got a more aggressive Zombi this time around? Great stuff.
I live in an ephemeral eternity

Lovin' the new Zombi album! I've seen comments that it's too simple, too post-rocky, not proggy enough, yadda, yadda.

It's Zombi and it sounds like Zombi and if you're disappointed, you must be new to Zombi.

Here's Steve and a complete playthrough of his bassline for "XYZT."

If you like that, you'll like 2020 and everything before it!

^^ fake. I can tell it's fake because it's a dude with a mega beard, playing bass while surrounded by stacks of keyboards....AND WEARING A WEDDING RING?!?!? I call massive bullshit!!!!

Zombi's awesome, both of these dudes are cranking out excellent material on their own as well. I've not spun the new one as much yet, but based on initial listens it's another great set of songs

With regard to the return of six-string guitar (and the solo on "B&C" is played by a guest), Steve said it's because the pre-Covid plan was to tour as a quartet, with him on (nearly) full-time bass, Paterra on drums, and two other guys on keyboards and guitar.

Interesting...I have to admit, it'd be a little weird not seeing Moore behind his synths at a show but I'd still be there in a heartbeat if they came through

Hey, I'm glad that y'all are digging it. I'm not sure that disappointed is the right word, but after a couple of trial bandcamp listens, I don't find it appeals to me as much as Shape Shifter, so I'm probably going to pass.

The last clip posted above really didn't work for me, but I will check them out anyway.

YOU SHUT YOUR WHORE MOUTH AND BUY IT DAMN YOU

All stupid kidding aside...the new one is good but Escape Velocity + Surface to Air are still my top picks from the band.

Also...for folks who enjoy this sound, check out the last Maserati album which isn't entirely dissimilar: https://maserati.bandcamp.com/album/enter-the-mirror

Actually, what IS your favorite from them Neil? Just wondering...they're a band that seems to often have fans in the "I love it all" or "I don't get it" bucket but I'm curious about which albums stick out for different folks...

Uh oh...embarrassing confession time. I ONLY have Shape Shift! I bought it from the band, the one time that I saw them live. It would seem that I should look into Spirit Animal and Surface to Air next.

Escape Velocity is SO good. I loved the return to the Cosmos sound of stripped-back electronics and drums.

And how about the Digitalis EP, released right after/with S2A

A.E. Paterra drums for those guys on occasion, too. Here he is!

  23. #23
^^ Nice! If memory serves, Moore also did some work with them along the way

Yeah, both Surface to Air and Digitalis are grand. But something about Escape Velocity hits ALL the right notes for me, right down to the "equal parts sleek and silly" cover

And we haven't even brought up all the guys' solo stuff. Steve has a ton, and Ant has a few as Majeure (easy to figure out what inspired that handle).

Been lucky enough to see both of them solo too. Moore did a solo set nearby just after Light Echoes came out, and A.E. opened up for the Japanese post-rock band Mono believe it or not. Both are as awesome solo as they are together

Brainstorm is still one of my hands-down faves from them.
