Sad news. Rest in peace, Florian.

I was just listening to this a few days ago (and again now):

    What a shame.
My life would be so different if he had not started Kraftwerk.

Well, that's going to happen (and will continue to happen) when your heroes are all senior citizens. Doubly so when those heroes operated in an industry rampant with drug use and other things that don't really prepare you for "a long, healthy life".

    Just read.

Granted he was ageing towards elder - but not 'old'.

    What achievements he mustered!

Ralf was the head of Kraftwerk, but Florian was the heart.

Imagine having the guts in 1974 to get onstage with short hair, skinny ties, musical note lapel pins and perform a 20 minute synth dirge about driving on a highway. And then it becomes a huge hit and spawns an entire musical genre. All of the 1980s synth-pop hits, great, good and terrible, could have never happened without Kraftwerk paving the, er, autobahn.

    RIP

In some wonderful alternate reality of post life, Schneider, Schnitzler, and Moebius are just now forming the most amazing German electronic/avant ensemble.

Thanks for treading so naturally the barriers between the avant and the popular. An inspiration for a whole generation of knob twiddlers.

Awful awful news, what a pioneer the man was, and that was far too young. We will always have the music and the countless branches of electronic sound that he and his band inspired.

    Basically my feelings.

Will spin the first two Kraftwerks soon.

    No humor please, we're skittish.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.
