BTW seriously...if you haven't given the Golden Retriever/Chuck Johnson a go, you should. It's lovely, cinematic, beautiful stuff that I think might be up your alley.

You tread on dangerous ground my friend, as according to PE, Steve is the patron saint of all things Genesis and Genesis-related.

Lol. Right! I feel Hackett's recent pattern of releases to be more a function of fan's purchasing habits than of Hackett's muse. Unless the muse is money.

You may be right! Every artist's gotta eat though, so I don't begrudge what Steve's doing if it's helping him to make a living. I'll always love him for the music he made with the G-men and his solo career afterward.

Wait, no. That's Ray Wislon. Easy mistake to make though.

As for the world-shooking horror of a prog keyboardist openly enjoying a Taylor Swift album? Hey...good is good. There are moments on "folklore" that remind me of Tori Amos at her most melancholy and lyrical. It's the same sort of quiet interlude in a pop catalog as was Sea Change from Beck. And if you don't know who Beck is either, or am wondering how you never heard of Jeff Beck's Sea Change album.......yeah, just chalk me up as a weirdo loser (baby) with no real taste and move on...definitely nothing to see here.

Dude, no judgment here. And I was being sincere when I said kudos for including Taylor, Reznor, and Steve Moore all in the same list.

Taylor Swift is talented, IMO. I like some of her stuff actually, although I've not taken the plunge and bought an album of hers (yet). I'm gonna have to give "folklore" a listen though, based on that description.

Bear in mind, you're talking to a guy whose favorite album of 2018 was Daphne & Celeste Save the World. And I'm not embarrassed in the least about it. Like you said, good is good.

This was the song I found on YT that first drew my attention to the album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUnDkI7l9LQ

Ambience and texture is my catnip, and this song just struck the right tone for me. So I gave the rest of the album a shot and don't regret it at all. It's a lovely quiet mix of lowercase pop.

Mentioned Beck in another thread (pop thread). Very talented in my opinion. Only started listening to him last year. Thought his last one was excellent as was Phoenix Morning. Need to explore Sea Change.

In a similar vein, several people here praised the latest Fiona Apple album. I gave it a spin - not my taste, but good. I characterized it as Ani diFranco Mark-II ... which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I'll have to listen to the Taylor Swift. I liked some of Tori Amos's output when she was at her peak.
    Regards,

    Duncan

Yup, you could be facing an over-feigning, obsequious, unctuous fanboyist clique's anger in defending Hackett's defender of the faith title.

Scaring isn't the right word, IMHO.

    I was frighteningly appaled!

FWIW I also tried the new Fiona Apple and while I appreciated what she was doing and it was certainly clever...it simply didn't connect with me.

Also...probably not necessary to say Duncan but good god DAMN you need to hear the Oranssi Pazuzu if you haven't already. Shockingly good stuff.

    SPEAK UP PLEASE

Believe it or not, that wasn't the loudest I'd seen them. Might actually be the 3rd loudest show. The Howard in DC would be the 2nd, and the clear winner by a WIDE margin was Sonar in Baltimore. The volume in that smaller club was so insane, when we left the building had moved a half block down the road.

I was loving it until it opened it's mouth. (Yes, I get the Pazuzu thing.)

Can't be hassled in looking through the lists if it's been mentionned before, but this is worth an earcheck, especially with Robert Wyatt lending his voice to it for three tracks, thus giving it a slight Canterbury twist.

Mary Halvorson's Code Girl - Artlessly Falling

    I see it's on Bandcamp:

Oranssi Pazuzu is musically quite interesting but I hate the vocals.

(Btw. the band is quite popular in Finland.)

This is on my top-60 list but I did not publish that one here as people does not seem to like long lists...
