You know, I can appreciate the vocal style on offer here, and know many like it, even love it. But, after giving two of the tracks a go, and stopping both not too long after the vocals kicked in, I'm not so sure which I would choose between listening to any more of this, or listening to someone claw their nails along a blackboard.
Boy, I coulda sworn French TV put out a cd in 2020.
I sure wish those Pazuzu folx would hire either Neal Morse or Joey Tempest or Jon Bongiovi to do singalongsong for their next symphlute-r&r-release. That way I can hear the lyrics, which I hope concern uplifting and positive things for morale and a peaceful astral-future for all of rainbow-mankind.

Good thing I decided against putting Madvillainy on there as a special/honorable mention...
Oh well. Maybe next year I'll go through the lists of others and let them know what sounded like nails on a chalkboard to my ears ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man, you should've put Madvillainy on there anyway, just to get a reaction.
It's no fun hearing that something I like sounds like nails on a chalkboard to someone else. I haven't heard the Pazuzu album so I really can't comment on it, but one of my favorite groups is Koenjihyakkei (whose singing was once described as an angry Japanese woman screaming at the listener) so it takes a lot for vocals to be offputting to me.
PS- I disagreed about Koenjiehyakkei, as they don't sound angry to me. Unhinged possibly, but more exuberant and joyful than angry.

The Oranssi is absolutely brilliant; to my ears it's less a metal album than a psychedelic progressive fusion that incorporates elements of metal along with electronica, folk, space rock and whatever else happened to come to their wonderful minds while writing.
But...the vocals are the harsh/aggressive kind, probably closer to black metal growly whispers and things. And that's most clearly the proverbial "nails on chalkboard" trigger for certain ears. I only called it out because Duncan's ears are relatively comparable to mine and I still think it's possibly his cuppa.
I do NOT expect this to win over anyone who doesn't like this...but I rather love watching this vocal coach geek out over how much he loves Oranssi Pazuzu and the vocal work. Folks who DO like this stuff might find this a treat:

Crazy list Johnny Batts. I'm still stuck in 1971 Canterbury over here. But at least its not Taylor Swift...ooooohh....ooohh....ooops.
Did you hear Kauvus and Bob's albums? I don't buy a ton of new shtuff but these I loved. Your list looks fun to bounce around though. Thanks for sharing maaaa'aaan.

I haven't, no...but I'm sure they're both exceptional based on how impressed I was with their prior works
Didn't expect anyone to actually pay attention to my list at all, to be 100% honest...so it's sort of a surprise to see any feedback at all, good/bad/shocked. So...thanks for checking it out!

Just speaking for myself, I've read everyone's list in this thread for at least two reasons: 1) To learn more about others' tastes, and 2) to scope out more new music for myself. Already got several good leads! And I will be checking out that new Taylor Swift album, I kid you not.
I really like these "Best of 20XX" threads because everyone contributes their likes and (in general) it's a pretty positive experience. The amount of great music I've learned about just from the folks here at PE is staggering, and for lack of a better phrase, it has changed my life. Sometimes I get argumentative (I'm trying to work on that, I promise), but on the whole PE is a great place and I'm grateful for this community existing.
This is why I suggested they either get Joey Tempest's non-genderbinary squeaky-cheeks or Jon Bon's genderbinary backseat-cheatin' toughness involved. Both of them have so much money that they don't need to be paid. Perhaps both Jon and Joey at once; it'll be like a contralto-castrato-rabiato.

Word. It's quite brilliant and if anything their last album was even better. The Oranssi is absolutely brilliant; to my ears it's less a metal album than a psychedelic progressive fusion that incorporates elements of metal along with electronica, folk, space rock and whatever else happened to come to their wonderful minds while writing.
Then again one of my favourites last year was from Napalm Death.
