    RIP - Lee Konitz

I had heard rumors earlier in the day, but now confirmed. He was 92 and was a victim of COVID. He was the last surviving musician who appeared on Miles Davis - The Birth of the Cool, but had an impressive career.

Damn. I'll admit I'm not terribly familiar with his oeuvre but he was everywhere.

    RIP

    A peerless alto saxophonist.

RIP and thank you for the music.

What a sound he had, and what a wonderful gift his career has been to music. I'll be spinning Angel Song (Wheeler, Konitz, Frisell & Holland) tonight.

Also one of the very last surviving members of the Tristano school, which is where I first encountered him.

I was lucky enough to see him 4 times doing various things and he remained an excellent musician into at least his very late 80s and he very much changed with the times, but this style of playing (and playing with Warne Marsh as a foil) will always be my personal favorite of his work.

It was sad to read this news yesterday. Although I have only a half dozen Konitz albums, they are all very different and great listens. RIP
