I have often played Polish Requiem or Utrenja around this time of the year. I shall probably play them again. Penderecki certainly composed many radical and gripping pieces of music. As big as he was in the art music world, it's the fact that his music was used in Hollywood films that always gets mentioned first. I have often wondered how many people who would never listen to this kind of stuff elsewhere have been exposed to his works through cinema - and perhaps even grown to like some of it.
