Just saw a news headline about this and came here to see if it had been mentioned. Such sad news.

That’s really sad, apart from his obvious talents he seemed to be a very lovely, decent and grounded man. I am happy that I got see him play live along his journey. RiP Bill, you will be missed.

I started a thead on this last night which has been moved out of the main thread, as yours probably will be.
Not sure it's a wise move as I'm sure others will create identical threads once the present thread has been moved...

From Ministry and Revolting Cocks to King Crimson via REM. What a fascinating life in music he had. This is tragic and feels close to home, but I take a bit of comfort that in a life that was far too short, he still had the chance to do so much that many could only dream of...and seized that chance.

It was via my old school friend Chris Connelly & Revolting Cocks that I first came across Bill. A very sad loss of a very special person.

Very sad to read this. By all accounts he was an exceptional musician and human being. I'll spin my Slow Music Project discs today.

His work with Ministry and Swans is also well worth investigation.

This isn't my own story but one of a good friend, shared here with permission...

"Favorite Bill Memory: Raft Island, WA. Two groups of guitarists are practicing orchestral improv outdoors on the tennis court of this retreat center. Our group (containing myself and Bill and several others) is playing something slashy, stabby, atonal. The other group is playing something peaceful, sparse, circulatey. Bill nods at the other group, looks at us, and whispers, “Let’s go fuck ‘em up.”

    Rest in Peace!

Played Crimso's Live in Chicago last night. Played some Birth of a Giant today. Never listened to it before. I like it a lot.

Fripp's diary is answers some questions I've always had about Rieflin's comings and goings in the band. He has had cancer for close to a decade. Moved from drums to keys partly due to his bodily weakness. He seems like someone who would have been very interesting to talk to.

I guess I'll visit the other thread to know more. I'd always assumed he came from the REM crowd only, but apparently I was mistaken.

    Had wondered about that.
Shifting Bill to the less-physical keys, away from the demanding drum stool shows that His Frippness is not always the twat he so painstainkingly drawing a picture of himself. He can be also a good individual.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
