John Ghost ~ Airships are Organisms

I got this in last weeks Bandcamp artist support sale and wow, this is really excellent.

    https://sdbanrecords.bandcamp.com/al...-are-organisms

A Belgium band lead by guitarist Jo de Geest (this translates into John Ghost) which are firmly rooted in Jazz but combine this with Post Rock and Minimalism. Adventurous but still fairly accessibel.
The subtle use of electronics give this album a completely own feel too. I think they sound somewhere in between Ghost Rhythms and The Claudia Quintet. This might appeal to a lot of people on this board.

Great to see that Belgium still gives us young and adventurous talent like this. Check it out!

Yeah, this is excellent to my ears - and I think the references you make are valid. Thanks for bringing it up.

    My favorite album of 2019.

It's a conceptual instrumental album that really flows well with lots of restraint.
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone

Excellent. Added to my Apple Music.

You might enjoy these that I have been grooving to lately:

    Horse Lords

    Joyfultalk

Wow! I listened to the whole album today on headphones. Amazing! Incredible forward looking progressive jazz fusion. I'll be checking out their previous album in short order.

Wonderful! This really connects with me. It’s very exploratory without monotony or aggression.

Great to see this album is getting some love.

Their debut is pretty good too but perhsps lacks that bit of own character that Airships has.

Really excellent, I wish I'd do a ghost-themed gig with these guys and Ghost Rhythms (and Baron Crâne !).

That would be a superb double bill. Besides the connection in the name the bands also have plenty in common musically.

I missed this thread in 2020, but after checking it out yesterday, I bought CDs of both Airships and the new one for yesterday's BC Friday. Excellent stuff indeed; thanks for bumping!

This is really lovely stuff. Shame about the AI generated album art, though...

Listening to the new one now and digging it. It has it's own exploratory vibe going on. Elements of jazz, some ambient, but not quite like anything else that I've heard. Thanks for the recommendation. Yet another quality 2023 release.

Somehow missed this first time round but checking out both albums now based on Neil's FB post. Pretty cool stuff. As if I didn't already have enough stuff for BC Friday!
