This is a cover of the Jim Pepper tune by 'Legs' Larry Smith of the Bonzo Dog Band - the first-ever release by Charisma Records, November 1969.
Rest of the line-up unknown but said to feature Keith Moon (dubious) and members of Yes.
COULD be Chris Squire, and possibly Tony Kaye in there.
Any comments ?

That could be Squire. The rest, who knows? One thing is for sure: that vocal melody is really annoying. He's mostly just singing a single note all the way through.

I'd say 100% Chris Squire, and possibly Tony Kaye. According to the Chris Welch Yes book, they toured with the Bonzos in Ireland in '69 so they definitely knew each other.

There is also a collaboration between Legs Larry Smith and Tony Kaye--written and produced by the pair--on the Bonzo Dog Band's contractual obligation album Let's Make Up and Be Friendly. I never heard of any Chris Squire involvement with the Bonzos, but it sure does sound like him on that single. Pretty rare for Squire to do a session.

Thanks for sharing this! I agree with the poll results of the 40 Greatest Yes Songs from Prog Magazine. Also, learned from reading the entry for "And You And I" that director Joss Whedon is a lifelong fan the band and named his production company Mutant Enemy in honor of a line in that song.

Lots of Bonzos fans seem to be convinced that it;'s their regular bass player, Dennis Cowan.

The drumming could still be Keith Moon despite the lack of flourishes. The ride cymbal sounds like him...and it speeds up.

I'd so go see Yes and the Bonzo's circa that time period. That would be so much fun.

I have a quibble but maybe it's just me. #16 Going for the One. I don't like the chorus(in Terry Jones I don't like spam voice). It just seems like that was the first thing that came to mind and they stuck with it. Rushed, disjointed, whatever word you want to use but that's that only thing I don't like about the album.

So, yeah, it's just a quibble. The album still rocks.
