Bandcamp artist fundraiser Friday, May 1st, with all proceeds going to artists

    Greetings,

As most of you know, in addition to all the more pervasive difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it has also had a devastating impact to those who make music in any professional capacity (especially those who rely on income from live performance and touring). As a gesture of support to the musical community, Bandcamp is offering to waive their share of revenue for purchases made on Friday, March 20th (midnight-to-midnight PDT). For details, please see:

    https://daily.bandcamp.com/features/...-19-fundraiser

In addition to sharing this announcement, I'm hoping we can all leverage this thread to share our own Bandcamp pages--both as artists and customers--and any specific recommendations as well. By example, I'll start with my own:

    - Advent Bandcamp page: https://advent-prog.bandcamp.com/
    - *My customer page: https://bandcamp.com/adventdude

*Please note that Bandcamp customer pages include tabs for:

    1. Our collection (of albums/EPs/singles previously purchased)
    2. Our wishlist
    3. Other Bandcamp users that are following us
    4. Other Bandcamp users that we are following

With the above in mind, I hope that many of you will consider sharing your own links and also start checking out music that you may want to consider purchasing--ideally on Friday--to help support these artists with maximum impact. Also, please keep in mind that you can stream all music on Bandcamp for free (at least a few times) before buying it.

Thanks a lot, take care, and wishing you all the best during this difficult time,

    Alan

*** Buy from Bandcamp on Friday March 20th!***

Bandcamp is giving its profits from Friday to the artists. Some of our PE friends and favorite artists might get a few extra shekels.

Please post recommendations (or links to your profile) here. I buy a lot from Bandcamp so any suggestions for things I may have missed would be welcome. Here's my profile:

My music can be found here :
    https://tinyurl.com/jvrj6mg
Caveat : this music (free improv', electroacoustic compositions) will be of very limited appeal (as in : none) to most members here. This sure ain't prog.

It's fair to mention some artists of value (also fiercely non "prog") that I've found on Bandcamp :
    Jenniger Walshe : https://jenniferwalshe.bandcamp.com/
    Toby Driver : https://kayodot.bandcamp.com/
    Jonathan Uliel Saldanha : https://silorumor.bandcamp.com/
    Francisco Lopez : https://franciscolopez.bandcamp.com/
    Fa Cesario : https://ordonnance.bandcamp.com/

    I recommend:
V Ä L V Ē: https://valvemusic.bandcamp.com/ Chlöe Herington's lo-fi/avant-guard/sound project; Herington is the one who has to cover Lindsay Cooper's parts in Half the Sky
Firefly Burning: https://fireflyburning.bandcamp.com/ "Part art song, part minimalist-folk chamber music"
Young Adults: https://youngadults.bandcamp.com/ Russian pop trio-then-duo with much trombone

I'd like to go a different way.

I'd really love for more folks to hear my last album (the few who heard it here had really awesome words about it), and I'm all about the Bandcamp model. But right now, I'm OK.

    So here's my page: https://battema.bandcamp.com

If you like it and want to buy it, I'm setting it to free. Whatever you were going to pay me, promise you'll put it towards someone else's work instead, preferably someone who might need it more right now.

I'm planning to buy tomorrow. I buy almost constantly already so this isn't really a binge deal but whatever little bit helps.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

I wanted to do something to support artists at this time, so I bought a bunch of stuff from my wishlist last weekend - including this! It was before Bandcamp made their announcement.

I have made most of my albums $1 (usually it's all free to download). For the next week or so, I'm going to put all money from sales back into my local art scene (Knoxville, Tennessee - a town that desperately needs it). Most of it will likely go as a donation to the Pilot Light - a small venue that brings incredible music. It's basically where Big Ears was born. It's where I discovered my favorite band, CHEER-ACCIDENT.

    My music: https://disproof.bandcamp.com/
    Some attempts to describe:
D1: strange covers of many varieties - video game music, etc
    D2: highly-composed prog
D3: experimental improv and psychedelic jams
D4: electronic beats and strange grooves
D5: insane impossible rhythmic MIDI weirdness
    D6: metal from the fringes
D7: noise scapes and alien transmissions
D8: rock vocals from a parallel dimension
Brad Hebert: A "Greatest Hits" or something
Base Stacking Interactions: Solo hammered dulcimer geometry
Christmas Generator 2000: Christmas music made on a Playstation

    My collection: https://bandcamp.com/bradhebert

Looking forward to checking out all the music in this thread!

some personal recommendations to check out

    Hi again,

Thanks to everyone who has participated in this thread. As my personal Bandcamp library is pretty extensive (252 releases), I thought I'd go through everything and highlight some of the releases--only one per artist--that I thought were exceptionally good (and also generally mostly obscure). They vary in style dramatically, but I hope this helps at least a few of you find some very cool new music:

    AUSTRALIA

Toehider - What Kind Of Creature Am I?: http://toehider.bandcamp.com/album/2...-creature-am-i

    CANADA

ART the Band - Snacks EP: http://arttheband.bandcamp.com/album/snacks-ep

    Mungion - Scary Blankets: http://mungion.bandcamp.com/album/scary-blankets
    TFPP - мα†ťρưŧt: http://music.tfpp.net/album/t

Lastly (for now), I thought I'd also share the Bandcamp page for Advent's new bassist, Evan Hause, who is also an accomplished composer and multi-instrumentalist/singer:

    https://hausemusic.bandcamp.com/

Please note that Evan composes in other genres too, but only posts his rock-oriented work on Bandcamp.

All the best and I hope you'll support some great Bandcamp artists during tomorrow's event,

    Alan

I have two works up on bandcamp:

    http://mahtrak.bandcamp.com/
    http://perspectivevortex.bandcamp.com/

The drummer for Perspective Vortex is a professional musician who lives from music only. He plays with a lot of famous Brazilian artists and just last week he was super happy to have played a gig with Sa & Guarabira (a quite famous and classic Brazilian duo from the 70's). But now he doesn't know when his next gig will be, and of course none of his students are showing up for classes either. So I believe this will be a very difficult period for him. Therefore, inspired by this thread, I have decided that whatever income I receive from Bandcamp sales tomorrow, I will give it entirely to him, in order to help him out a bit.

Some recent Bandcamp discoveries of mine that more people should hear:

Spiral Orchestra - Atlas Ark: symphonic prog big band from Switzerland delivering an all instrumental sci-fi inspired concept album. At times it reminds me of early Isildurs Bane
    https://spiralorchestra.bandcamp.com/album/atlas-ark

The Segue - Holograms: progfusion from Poland
    https://theseguemusic.bandcamp.com/album/holograms

Frank Van Essen - Sanctum: all instrumental album made by former Iona drummer / violin player Frank van Essen. Dave Bainbridge of Iona guests and also Jimmy Johnson on bass on a few pieces. Sort of a mixture of ambient meets world music meets prog with the lead mostly taken by Frank van Essen on violin

    Hi again,

Adding one more recommendation that I acquired directly from the artist (so it didn't appear in my collection):

    Kenner - 8Ball City: http://kennermusic.bandcamp.com/album/8ball-city

    Cheers,

My Bandcamp page is in my sig.

My thinking about tomorrow is that I should, as a minimum, spend on Bandcamp what I’d have spent on the next gig I would have gone to if they weren’t all cancelled - tickets, drinks, travel costs. That feels like the least I can do.

John, that is indescribably generous of you. What an example.

I don't have all of my "prog" stuff on my Bandcamp page, but I do have the Greyfeather album and some Farpoint singles, along with my own solo singles and some of my folk rock stuff with various groups. I might try to get some more Farpoint stuff up soon.
If anyone here considered any of my music I'd be forever grateful. I have had every gig from March and April cancelled. It's going to be a tough couple of months. If it's not your thing I completely understand.
    Stay safe and healthy everyone.

I grabbed a bunch of albums from BC today. Some newer ones and a lot that were on my wishlist for too long:

    Fistfights with wolves- Bone script
    Made of Water - Hydrosphere
Stop Motion Orchestra - Instant everything
    Hooffoot - Hooffoot
Lady With - The lady with the monkey
John Ghost - Airships are organisms
    John Greaves - Songs
    Joanna Newsom - Ys
    Cheer-Accident - Introducing lemon
Motor Totemist Guild - City of Mirrors

    A few of My tips
Cardiacs - Sing to God. Not for the faint hearted but its simply the best album ever made:
    https://alphabet-business-concern.ba...o-god-vol-i-ii

Ghost Rhythms - Madeleine . Jazz meets RIO meets Minimal music. Simply outstanding instrumental music.
    https://ghostrhythms.bandcamp.com/album/madeleine

The Blue ship - The Executioners Lover . Univers Zero teamed up with Kurt Weil to make this album. My favorite album of the past decade.
