I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
They are just people in madly in love and really, really excited about Valentine's Day in Feb.....right?
For anyone interested here is our CEO talking about the Pfizer vaccine on The Today Show earlier this week:
Those trials are when the virus is injected into a patient who will later get the testing vaccine.

Europe seems to be headlong hurtling towards spike two. In the U.K. there are a few local lockdowns in play, and we are now back to only allowing six people to meet at home or outdoors. Restaurants, pubs, offices, gyms are still open, and there’s an emphasis on keeping the economy moving. We will see how that progresses over the coming months.
I bought a wah wah pedal. Does that count?
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.
I did not know about that, because these are things we seldom look for. Only place I ever see guitars is the pawn shop. It's all we have for instruments. Other day I noticed Walmart's bicycle section was empty. The rack that held all the display bikes was there, but there were no bikes. I thought maybe they moved them to another part of the store, but that's silly. It's not Costco, where they move everything weekly. Besides, why would they move the bikes and leave the display rack? One of the few good things about walmart is that they are all on the same floor plan, so you can go to any store and find what you are looking for in the same place your local store has it. But who knows? I noticed they have taken down any signs they used to have informing you of what products you can find on the aisle you are walking by. Shopping made needlessly, time-consumingly difficult in a time when spending time in a store is risking your life.Originally Posted by progmatist
In another store, I asked after a laptop my kid was interested in. They had none of that one in stock and could not order one. Said the manufacturer/warehouse system couldn't get him one. They just had one on display to piss people off, I guess. They offered models we weren't interested in, but did not offer a discount because what we wanted was not in stock. Typical.
And everywhere we went it seemed retailers were demanding exact change because of a supposed coin shortage. Now, I know the government can mint more coins anytime it wants to, so I'm guessing this government doesn't want to. Another thing to consider when casting your vote. The choice of assholes is entirely your own.
Lucky you. We in the US will never see spike two. Poorly managed spike one will kill us all.Originally Posted by Sunlight Caller
The encouraging news is that the death rate is so much lower this time around. It appears to be a combination of several factors:
- Lower age group of those infected (typically the younger generation who have been socialising and holidaying more)
- Advanced treatment of those who do end up hospitalised, i.e. alternative drugs that alleviate some of the symptoms
- More testing revealing higher incidence of cases that might previously have been missed.
- The care home fiasco in wave one which reduced the at risk population significatply.
- Vulnerable and at risk people still shielding.
How this plays out will be revealing.

A good friend of mine is positive and experiencing symptoms. He's a special education teacher and wanted to get tested before school started (Sept. 15) so that he could reassure the parents that he's not a risk. He went to get tested last Friday but got to the clinic too late and, as he had no symptoms, was asked to come back the next day. Friday night he was hit with severe fatigue and a headache. He was tested on Saturday, but says he felt okay on Saturday. By Sunday he knew for sure that he was sick. Test results came in on Monday. Positive for him, thankfully negative for his wife.
Public Health has been unable to trace where he was exposed. They think it may have been at a restaurant where he ate indoors but don't know for certain. It's the only place that he's been in public without a mask. The good news is that everyone that he's been in close contact with since then have tested negative. This includes his wife and several teachers at his school. He credits masks and cleanliness for their good health. He and his wife are now in quarantine in different parts of their house in the hope that she continues to stay negative.
He says he's feeling slightly better today, and we're all hopeful that he continues in this upward direction. If so, his case will be considered mild.
It's an excellent reminder to follow the protocols. Stay physically distanced. Wear a mask when you can't maintain physical distance. Wash your hands regularly, and sanitize when you can't wash.
For me, I think I'll continue to stay away from restaurants through the winter. It will soon be too cold here to keep outdoor patios open so eating out will mean eating inside. I feel bad for the restaurants that we used to frequent. I'm not sure how many will still be around in a few months. Takeout continues to sound good to me.
My wife was disappointed that I didn't share her interest to eat outside at one of our favorite restaurants.
It's on a busy street, and I am just not ready still.
I'll go into a place for carryout. I'll go to the grocery store.
I don't think that I am over cautious. She is immune compromised, but getting cabin fever.
We have to travel up to Boston at the end of October for some specialty medical tests.
We are going up on Amtrak. Seven hours on Acela. But they have seating staggered, we sit on opposite sides of the car.
Mask up the whole way. I think we can do this. She needs the tests.

No way am I ready to go to a restaurant. Too many fools. Plus, people are supposed to be six feet apart. But they put the TABLES six feet apart, which leaves people about four feet apart.
Nope. Maybe next year sometime.
I'm a member of the local chamber. They had a networking event and posted pictures on their FB page. All of these idiots arm-in-arm posing for photos with big smiles. One of the guys has cancer. Yet, there he is with a shit-eating grin, putting himself at risk. People sitting at tables yacking away having a great time as though there's no danger. The only masks I saw were being worn by the restaurant workers, who had to have been horrified.
I just don't get it. WTF are they thinking?
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you got to load or unload go to the White Zone!"
Despite the total number of deaths, most people don't know anyone who has died or suffered lasting ill effects. Until and unless that happens, most people will continue to view it as a small risk, someone else's problem. The pandemic has illuminated the fact that selfishness is the number one attribute in American society today. As The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived would say,..Sad!
Well said, unfortunately you can't fix stupid, and don't have to go far to find it

My social circle is also getting restless. We did go to a mead bar a couple of weeks ago. I was a bit nervous, but luckily they were taking things seriously at the bar, and they only had outdoor seating. Aside from the 30 mins or so I was drinking, I wore my mask, and while it was nice to sit in the sun and soak up some mead, always in the back of my head there was worry.
Bigger concern for right now is...it's football season in America and in previous years we were very active...I would host a SNF viewing party, someone else would host TNF, and we would go out for the occasional MNF. I'm not looking to start that up again this year, but my roommate is. Similarly, someone else, wants to start up the TNF viewing parties again, combined with taco night. Sadly, I'm afraid my roommate will attend the latter, and part of me feels that would be nearly as bad as me attending (which I'm not planning on doing).
There is also talk of going to a renaissance faire in the next state over, which also concerns me, even being outdoors, as it usually attracts a sizeable amount of people. All the while the transmission rates in Frownland continue to rise....
