Well, in all earnestness, this *is* evolution at work. The emergence of a new (or "novel") pathogen that spreads without any limitations because it's got no natural enemies. It'll continue to spread until either it encounters some limitation, or its hosts are all dead.
And from a 10,000 mile perspective, this is just the Earth ridding itself of an overgrowth of one particular organism, in this case man. In the long run(!) a worldwide reduction in population would solve a lot of problems.
Just sorry it had to be in MY lifetime....

No vinegar and bleach. That will kill You.
A soap solution will kill the Corona virus too. That's why hand washing is so important.

I have always had several months supply Food, and a few other essentials, basically for all my life. It's come in handy at times, both for myself, and others. I hope that being prepared for a disruption in the supply chain is not considered "hoarding" - Its really called understanding that bad things can happen - even in nice places. My intention is that I can get thru bad times, and at least not starve. Of course, I live on a small farm, so we try to keep it as real as we can. That's not the same thing as buying medical masks and selling them on Ebay for profit. Some people call what I do hoarding, but life is not a popularity contest, and you'll never make everyone happy with how you choose to live your life. My "Hoard" is not to profit from off of others...
So, yes, I am an Asshole, but "Hoarding' does not significantly contribute to my overall Asshole rating... Now guitar picks.... I have more that I will ever need in a lifetime...

You're saying the earth itself is sentient enough to know it needs to reduce an overgrowth of humans? Seriously though, who would have thought 2 months ago we'd be to this point! Which tells me none of us know where we'll be 2 months from now. Hopefully all of us alive and well!

I'm a little sketched out about all this. I'm in my mid-50s and fairly healthy overall, but in the last six months or so I have had some weirdness with my lungs. I have mild bronchial spasms and occasional shortness of breath but it's very sporadic. I've been to the doctor and had a bunch of tests. I also got a chest x-ray. All blood tests and chest x-ray are normal. Now I wait for the results of a pulmonary function test I had yesterday.
I could be developing some mild asthma or something. Also, back around the time this all began I was exposed to some mold so it could be that. Anyway, I hope it won't be an issue should I contract COVID-19.

Lewis Thomas in "Lives of a Cell" likens the earth to one big self-regulating cell, which over the millennia has adjusted oxygen level and temperature as various lifeforms evolved to take advantage of these new opportunities. The earth doesn't need to be "sentient" per se, just a big enough feedback loop to maintain continuity.
Two responses.
1. If you checked this information's veracity elsewhere, why did you say you read it on Twitter?
2. In this crisis it's the misinformation that's putting public health at risk. I don't think it's "snarky" to question information you got from an unregulated source where anybody can say anything -- and is well-known for its misinformation.

Hutch: "Rush is variety, Bitch! Rule number one: in my van, its Rush! All Rush, all the time...no exceptions."
From "Fanboys" 2009.
Interesting. He likened the earth to a cell huh? Just the earth or all planets, I wonder? Well all cells are technically alive, either way. But my skeptical nature prevents me from putting too much stock into all such claims or comparisons without solid evidence. That goes for about anything in my world
