Boris Johnson went in intensive care, but Jair Bolsonaro didn't have many symptoms ...

I don't ever want to wish anything bad on anyone, and I wish them both a full recovery. But if they don't have symptoms, or have mild symptoms, or the symptoms are just simply played down...he is going to continue to talk about how this virus is nothing to worry about and the U.S. is going to become an even bigger shitshow than it already is. I don't pray, but if I did, I'd be praying for you all.

The next two weeks are going to be very interesting. I'm heading to Costco tonight (with my Canadian Mastercard ), and buying the biggest bag of popcorn that I can find.

Interesting that politicians (and sports professionals) can be tested as often as they want, but us regular folk cannot be tested unless we show up at the hospital with severe symptoms. Then they will test us, but only to see if we go into the Covid ultracontagious wing of the hospital or the regular wing, or they tell us to go home. And a large portion of the population won't go to the hospital no matter what; it's too expensive, even with the health insurance that no one has anymore due to lack of jobs.

They moved Johnson in as a precaution, but he was never ventilated, and I didn't really believe all of that story either.

And for a while, us plain folk had to wait 10 days to 2 weeks for results. That's like taking a pregnancy test, and getting the results 7 months later.

When my wife had a same day procedure in August she had to get a fast covid test (2 day result) . No problem. Didn't see the EOB for that, I should look to see how much insurance paid.
But random folks still don't get one.
I did get an unsolicited email from QuestDiagnostics for an 'at home' test. Deleted without reading, but they're out there.

Not sure what the issue is everywhere, but here in Dallas there are at least 30 places where I can go right now for a free test. The closest is a church just a mile from here. Drive up and have it done in moments, get results within a day or so.

I find some of the comments here interesting too. Testing is very easy to get here in Kalamazoo.

There are long line-ups to get tested here and, apparently, results that used to take 2 days, now take 3-5 because the labs are backed-up. Rapid test kits have just been approved recently, but there is no supply yet.

The Ontario Gov't has changed the rules for testing effective tomorrow. Right now anyone can get tested for any reason. Starting tomorrow, you have book an appointment, be showing symptoms, have been in close contact with some who tested positive and referred to a test by public health or the Covid Alert app, or be in a group that requires regular testing (i.e. health practitioner or visitor to a retirement or seniors home).

Cases are now spiking in Russia, despite the early rollout of their vaccine.

Pretty sure it's easy to get tested quickly here in VT and NH. Results usually in about 2-3 days.

939 new cases in Ontario today. Five weeks ago, there were just over 100 a day. The numbers are steadily growing here. The Premiere has moved Toronto, Ottawa, and Peel Region (just outside Toronto) back to a modified Stage 2 (from Stage 3) which means no indoor dining, gyms and fitness centres have to close, along with cinemas, casinos, performing arts, racing venues and any personal care service that requires you to remove your mask.

My husband is waiting to hear if his hockey league will be able to continue, as the rink is in Toronto.

There are no changes yet where I live, but since my region borders on Toronto and Peel, I expect a step backwards in the next week or two. The only affected service that I'm currently using is my gym. I'm going to be very disappointed if my gym has to shut down as that's the best release for my anxiety. I've not heard of any cases transmitted through gyms and my gym has very strict protocols and is constantly cleaning. But, I'll understand if that's what is needed.

Ontario and Quebec are sure seeing rises in cases. We've been fortunate in BC with daily counts in the vicinity of 150. Here on Vancouver Island, we're even more fortunate with daily counts anywhere from zero to 10. Not sure why we are much less affected, but I imagine there are reasons. I'll take it though!

Hang in there F.A. (and everyone else for that matter)

Thanks. Is there screening before people can get on the ferries to the island? If so, that might be a contributing factor for the low counts.

Hubby's hockey is 'on hold'. So, I guess the arena is closed for at least the next four weeks, which is the minimum length of time for the new restrictions. He's pretty bummed about it. But if the numbers go down, it'll be worth it.

On another note, we get the flu vaccine every year. Usually, we walk into the local pharmacy and get our shot from the pharmacist. It's never been a big deal. Between last night and today we had to go to five pharmacies before we found one that still had flu vaccines in stock. They had 20 doses left and we were numbers 14 and 15 in line. They weren't very well organized and as a result, we waited almost an hour while they fit the shots in between filling prescriptions. While we waited, they were turning people away. We just made it! I know they'll get more in next week, but I was happy to get it today. I think a lot more people are getting vaccinated this year...which is a positive byproduct of Covid IMO.

The ticket agents ask the standard questions...are you feeling unwell, have you been tested positive....etc. I can't imagine there's many that would answer yes, in the event they should. They don't take one's temperature.

9 people at Trump's Minnesota campaign rally have tested positive for the coronavirus

Had an outdoor, socially-distanced lunch with a former band mate yesterday. His daughter had to get tested because she had a cough while in school. She was out for several days because he didn't want her to get the typical deep nasal swab test (sorry, don't know the official name) and it took a few days to get an appointment for a "rapid antigen" test, which is also a swab but less invasive. He described it as "putting a swab a short way up her nose, twisting is around to collect, or deposit, whatever" and gave me a funny look. I did not take the bait but apparently he believes what most of us call "testing" is actually "spreading". I guess if you're a Qult member that's one way to interpret "if there's no testing the cases will go down" or whatever that quote was. Un-freakin'-believable.

After a while all those implanted chips are going to interfere with each other.

The shit is spiking all around me. The nursing home in a town thirteen miles away has 16 residents infected. The patriarch of a family that have a farm two miles from my family's farmstead died of COVID a few days ago in that same home. The first test on him came back negative so they gathered the family and pastor to see him fade away. Then they did a second test as he was dying and guess what: POSITIVE. So now the family members that were there and the pastor have to go into quarantine. They're furious because these folks all take precautions.

Meanwhile, some local slack-jaws got married a couple weeks ago and held a reception in the town auditorium. Over twenty positive cases so far and they're still tracing.

My wife and I had to go grocery shopping the other day and less than half the people were wearing masks, even though reports of infection and death are all around. We left the store. It's not getting any smarter out there.

Masks are mandatory here. Everyone wears them. Still, there's a second wave.

^^ But there in Canada, whether to even wear a mask isn't a political football like it is here in the US.
