I've been watching this month's Grand Sumo tournament, which began on Sunday, from Osaka, and they've been doing pretty much with no audience, supposedly for the first time ever. The first couple days, you cuold see a few people sitting in the stands, but today and yesterday, I think, it looked as if no one was there at all, save for the participants.
I don't know how to process this whole deal. I imagine a lot of businesses are going to be losing LOTS of money due to all the cancellations, people not going out to eat or whatever.
No, we are not looking at millions of Americans dying although I estimated 500,000 elderly two days ago and a John Hopkins expert backed that up on Sam Harris' podcast. (Why is it always that those who know the least like rcarlberg insist on talking the most?? Really annoying.) Harris said "Could it be 800,000", and the expert said yes. Same ball park as 500,000.
This podcast is excellent:

I hope, like so many times before, the scientists are right and the press is wrong. Seems funny to say that, but that's the world we live in. The press will say anything, anything if they think it will cause clicks or eyeballs. I sure hope its far less invasive than some are saying. 500k is a LOT of bodies, but its not like a third of Europe is being wiped out. Seems insensitive, but... I'm not the one doin' the killin' and hopefully I wont know anyone who is gonna do the dyin'.
Us geezer are going to have to dodge some bullets. I am susceptible to this, I have had issues with colds turning to pneumonia. My bronchial tubes are always getting inflamed by any cold or whatever. I'm gonna be careful. Today is my Birthday - I'm 61 and feeling every year of it. Happy birthday to me! someone hand me a Corona!

Cheers, man! Stay healthy, and keep a healthy sense of humor.
Most of “the press” is not spreading misinformation. That is proliferated largely by opinion media and by social media. Most of your major outlets are going to be the most trustworthy. Hype? That’s another story.
It’s always best to remain skeptical and try to verify information you are receiving. It’s like how phone, mail, and email is full of spam and scams. Information is no different. “That is the world we live in.”

Its called panic.
Seriously, Covid-19 behaves just like any other virus. Once you have recovered from a virus you are NOT infectious anymore and cannot get infected again (unless the virus mutates of course). Ask any specialist: they will confirm this.
I was told by my doctor to stay indoors and avoid contacts untill I am at least 48 hours symptom free. 12 hours to go. I desperately need a long run.
^^^ Most of the time this has come up, physicians and scientists I have seen have been reluctant to say that you cannot contract the virus twice. FWIW

It’s true that immunity longevity varies depending on the virus. Chickenpox antibodies typically remain for the rest of one’s life. But that’s not the case with other viruses of course. There’s probably some duration of immunity after recovery, but I don’t think we know enough to be sure yet how long that would last. Better safe than sorry.
Finnish government has banned all events of more than 500 people starting from today until the end of May, so the two Van der Graaf Generator shows in Helsinki are cancelled/postponed (and also Yes, but that is not a disaster of similar magnitude). It's not looking good for the VdGG tour and I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing ended up getting rescheduled. The Nits concert I was going to go to in two weeks from now has already been rescheduled for October.
Damn virus made it personal now. I have tickets in the next three weeks to see The Musical Box, Brand X / District 97, and Britt Floyd.
None of these shows will be happening.

Hopefully you are correct (I was unable to find any reliable information on this).
What I DID find, when I was researching it, is that scientists say the virus has moved so fast, and infected so many people, that it's quite likely it has already mutated like the flu does every year. There may be several strains of coronavirus out there, each one requiring its own immunity. Having the flu once does not mean you don't need a new flu shot every year. Having "the coronavirus" may be the same.
To Yamishogun: I sincerely hope you're right, and the scientists are wrong. Half a million dead is bad enough.
Here's the problem with the data in this article. The USA is shown low on the infection rate chart -- but only because we've conducted very limited testing. There are dozens of countries with exponential growth rates. As of today, most of them are Western.
We have no idea the real infection rate.
And meanwhile infected individuals are out there spreading the virus.
At present, it is not yet confirmed that this is the case, based on a small number of individuals who had Covid-19 and then became ill a second time. And were found to be shedding virus. It is possible that they never really recovered, were infected with the second strain of virus, or were reinfected by the one they had. Remember, when this virus first emerged in Wuhan, it was very infectious. Apparently, it mutated into a second strain, and it is this second- and less lethal- virus which has been spreading globally. Viruses are expert at exploiting weaknesses in their hosts; here, finding a means to spread and enter respiratory cells easily. Also remember, this was a cross-species jump, so we had not had millions of years of evolution to develop safeguards. Coronavirus works via aerosolized spread, making it effective. Ebola is highly lethal and spread via blood contact- making it a virus that often burns itself out- if you really want to get scared, consider a mutation that becomes aerosolized. Oh wait, it already did, bur fortunately Ebola reston is not lethal to humans.Seriously, Covid-19 behaves just like any other virus. Once you have recovered from a virus you are NOT infectious anymore and cannot get infected again (unless the virus mutates of course).
It is global threat and it will be a very long time before we return to normal. I will soon be teaching and working from home, as we prepare here at my university to do only online education, in Dallas. My synagogue just announced it was cancelling services, will only live stream an empty room. No baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, music, or large gatherings. we do not know if we can hold graduation in 4 weeks. And hyet there are people who believe this is not serious, it will not affect them, it is only old people threatened, etc. Read the data, deaths have been reported from age 10 up. Stop chattering about inanitites and face reality.

Boiled down:
We will all get corona perhaps this year, hopefully later - the problem is that if we all get it at the same time, nobody can treat us, and the weakest of us will suffer and perhaps die.
So its crucial to delay the speading, so there is a possibility that you can get the necessay help if needed.
In Denmark every larger place where people gathers, like schools, universities, concerts, sports events, are closed down some weeks, and then we evaluate.
You americans should probably do the same.
It cost a lot of money, but...
You left out two big groups: politicians and the fools who believe them.
A top Ohio health official is estimating that they may have 100,000 infections in that state alone. Yes, the estimates are all over the place, unlike testing kits.
