I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.
Maybe he thinks it will only affect his non-supporters. But he, apparently, knows the risks, as evidenced by a recent leaked audio clip:
"How do we know reopening businesses won't result in faster spread of more cases of COVID-19?" Abbott asked during a Friday call with members of the Texas legislature and Congress. "Listen, the fact of the matter is pretty much every scientific and medical report shows that whenever you have a reopening—whether you want to call it a reopening of businesses or of just a reopening of society—in the aftermath of something like this, it actually will lead to an increase and spread. It's almost ipso facto."

New music is definitely being created in quarantine.

The other day I'm doing the sourdough thing when Prime Minister Trudeau comes on CBC to do his daily co-vid talk (about cabin fever, madness, etc) at 11.30 AM and he says something like , "how many of you are attempting sourdough?"
^^ I found a shortcut to making sourdough. Just leave a tub of yogurt out on the counter overnight, then bake into bread the next day. The taste is indistinguishable.

Great anecdote! On the subject of our PM, I think generally he has done a very good job during the pandemic. There's been a couple of amusing moments, such as early on, when he was quarantining at his home, and coming outside for his daily news conference, and on a particularly cold morning he pauses the conference announcing he's running inside to fetch his coat. Nice to have a "human" moment amidst all the statistics and dire news.
Our provincial authorities, in my opinion, have also done a great job, particularly our province's chief medical office, Dr Bonnie Henry. She has this gentle and warm demeanor while she tells us each day to stay the hell home!
^^ I'm jealous.

Some helpful info here ... I think.

Probably likely. Cities bear the highest risk, need to take the most precautions, and tend not to vote for the kind of governor who has the "courage" to call off the precautions and start businesses re-opening. He'll never have to pay the price for that, nor will the people behind him. It's the people crammed together into tiny apartments and working three part-time minimum-wage jobs who will.
I worked in the U.S. as a consultant for 8 or 10 years and it's truly an amazing country. Still, I'm very proud of uniquely Canadian policitical accomplishments - a socialist democratic third party (3/4 parties in total!), universal health care, gun control, legalized pot, very low violent crime rates, prisons with less than a 1 to 3 ratio within the U.S. correctional system. The list goes on. Oh yeah, with the exception of Vancouver, B.C.. (no snow), the rest of our country (except southern Ontario) are fucking cold in our winters.

Report on the ground from my neck of the woods FWIW: my wife is clinical pharmacist at a Baltimore hospital where at least two of her co-workers are now infected. All the wards are now full and today they are converting OR’s to handle the overflow which is unprecedented. She is also making protective headgear for her comrades from free fabric donated by Joanne’s but cannot make them fast enough. We are both very worried about the situation there and she is keeping distance from the rest of the family at home and sleeping in a separate room. Her stress level is not good and she now will have to work extra hours.

Brian Dennehy: "I'm now 80 and I'm just another actor and that's fine with me. I've had a hell of a ride," ... "I have a nice house. I haven't got a palace, a mansion, but a pretty nice, comfortable home. I've raised a bunch of kids and sent them all to school, and they're all doing well. All the people that are close to me are reasonably healthy and happy. Listen, that's as much as anybody can hope for in life."
I think if you were alive any part of 2020 and you receive a check your surviving relatives should get to keep it. The checks were sent out to stimulate the economy, sending it back to the government defeats that purpose. Unless you are a surviving spouse or a dependent child the government must think funerals are free because there are no death benefits from SS or the military. More than likely surviving family had to spend their money on funeral expenses.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF STUPID PEOPLE IN LARGE GROUPS!
Ed, deepest and most sincere condolences on the loss of your mom.
Perhaps finding the happy medium is harder than we know.
I don't think that's safe to assume. The guidelines are stated in the link ronmac provided(the IRS link is in the link).
From the IRS Website:It states the following:A10. No. A Payment made to someone who died before receipt of the Payment should be returned to the IRS by following the instructions in the Q&A about repayments. Return the entire Payment unless the Payment was made to joint filers and one spouse had not died before receipt of the Payment, in which case, you only need to return the portion of the Payment made on account of the decedent. This amount will be $1,200 unless adjusted gross income exceeded $150,000.
The key word to me is before If the person was alive at the time the check is received, it's cashable, if they passed on before the check arrived you have to return the check.
If anyone doubts this, that's fine, just make certain you have the equal amount in reserve for when they request the money be returned.

Ed, I think it's pretty much like this... if you feel you want to cash that check, that's up to you (just don't show them this thread lol). But as Top Cat says, just be prepared for the day they may ask for it back. I may be wrong, but I honestly think the government will be more diligent about recovering SS benefits than they will be these one-time checks.
