Hello - there you are !

Thanks man! Dad's still tryin to fully shake it off, but his battle is slowly being won now. This thing just doesn't want to let him go! Thankfully we didn't have any respiratory emergencies, but symptoms were all over the map. This is one bizarre virus...wash yer hands folks!

Will they ever learn? Chinese markets are still selling bats and slaughtering rabbits on blood-soaked floors as Beijing celebrates 'victory' over the coronavirus

We are going to go downtown this AM. There's only about 700 people in this town and I am sure a few hundred still haven't a clue about what's going on.

This would be sickening even if there were no f**king coronavirus.
I hope everyone's staying safe and your mental state is better than mine. Looks like here in the US we are bracing for the upward curve for the next two weeks. Is it only me that feels despair when I see favorable numbers in opinion polls on how our leadership is handling this crisis? I'm really trying not to be political, but this just seems we are in Orwell/Kafka territory here and it worries me.
Thank goodness we still have experts like Dr. Fauci and some heroic, competent people across the nation at a local level from nurses to administrators to governors and mayors (Democratic and Republican) and to people like police, workers at grocery stores, pharmacies, utilities etc. etc. keeping the lights on for us.
We can all try to support our local community even if it just means supporting local businesses by ordering take-out and leaving a large tip. People are truly grateful for small acts of kindness (I never thought picking up dinner at a local Mexican restaurant would become an act of solidarity and commiseration) and this will only become more vital in the next weeks.

Although China certainly has to consider a cultural shift in terms of its anything-goes wildlife markets, be VERY careful in considering the veracity of these articles. What the authors present as standard or government-endorsed is often very peripheral — I’ve seen the Daily Mail and similar publications make ridiculous assertions about what ‘the Japanese’ and other ‘exotic’ people supposedly think and believe.
Just how Western reporters suddenly got back into China when there’s pretty much 0 entry for non-Chinese at the moment, journalist foreigners at that, and managing to get into provincial wildlife markets, leaves me wondering...
It really depends upon what we're talking about. The Communist party tries to modernize a heavily traditional society that includes local methods of medecines and culinary habits in their outback. They had tp resort to terrorising the masses by taking some to make examples, so most of them complied on the surface, but probably not in private. Despite the 1-child per couple law enforced by the state for something like three or four decades, millions of Han ethinc couples had a second one , when this was allowed only for minorities or farmers upon demand. So lets not over-estimate the so-called willingness to be compliant and the discipline of Asians
Soooo, yeah, it's probably true that most rejoice about the un-locking is private feasts and that the the masses are simply up to their old tricks again. Most likely, the state is going to have to do a few crackdowns (if it chooses to do so) before anything will change.

China is very big and with different cultures.
In a radioprogramme I heard today they stated that there are many geographical areas where they don't have these markets.
Areas 'dominated' by Buddhist culture don't have them.
Thinking of how the chinese government can control freedom of speech etc., I dont see why they shouldn't be able to shut down those markets and stop the eradication of lots of animals (like Pangolins) if they want to.

Donuts Delite, a doughnut shop in Rochester, N.Y., is selling doughnuts featuring the likeness of Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Fauci, an immunologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has entered into the spotlight as he appears regularly during President Donald Trump's televised briefings about the COVID-19 pandemic.
"He's on TV giving us the facts, you've got to respect that. We're bipartisan, we stay neutral, but you've got to give credit where credit's due," he continued.
