Many of us who now have to shop at walmart, do not do so by choice.
Today I have the sad honor of playing for the funeral service of a dear, long time friend. He was diagnosed with Covid last Thursday, admitted to the hospital on Tuesday, and passed on Wednesday. He was a kind and gentle, generous soul with a subtle, intelligent sense of humor and a vast, diverse talent for playing any musical instrument with strings. He was a friend, a mentor, and a huge supporter of all my musical endeavors. This is the closest and hardest that COVID has Hit for me. I am heartbroken.
(The funeral will of course follow social distancing and mask-related rules.)

I have seen nothing on the news about walmart declaring the pandemic over, and resuming stone age health and safety precautions.
I find it interesting all of your experiences from around the world. I will say that here in Michigan where I live people are mostly following the rules. I have had no issues going out to restaurants, stores etc. I think the cooperation around here has been pretty remarkable. For example, we went to Bell’s Brewery here in town last night. They have the whole place set up for COVID. One entrance, one exit, social distant seating, beer and food orders are taken at a counter with barriers, masks must be worn unless sitting at your seat. Everyone I saw was complying with the rules and doing what they were supposed to. Our governor was right on all of this right from the beginning and although some hate her, I think she has done an amazing job.
Very sorry for your loss Kevin. Bless you for playing at his service. That has to be beyond difficult for you.
A Comfort Zone is not a Life Sentence
Sitting at a high top table next to the bar watching ball. It's a "semblance of normalcy. " Yes I am masked, yes all the servers are masked, yes people are cooperating and behaving themselves. Good to break out of the effing, 4 walls on a Saturday afternoon before I go home and follow the same effing routine (beer, , The Three Stooges, heavy metal, stoner rock, and doom).
My work life usually comprises of traveling to some remote location for 4 or 5 days every 2nd week. (I do most of my PE administration in hotel rooms )
I haven't traveled since Feb. and have no plans to do so until next year ... maybe.
For the meantime : My client (based in NYC) is all working from home, and their client - (a Blue Cross / Blue Shield in Baltimore, whose programs I'm managing) are also all working from home.
We're in meetings or collaborative workshops 6 to 7 hours a day. I've always more-or-less lived on conference calls, but now I'm getting really good at Google Meets, Skype meetings, TEAMS meetings, WebEx, Zoom, and all of the other collaboration tools.
Most of the meetings are off camera. You know that statistic that says 1 in 8 men and 1 in 12 women working from home is nude? Whenever I'm on meetings off-camera with 20 or more people, an interesting diversion is to guess who the 1-in-8 or the 1-in-12 is.

We have TEAMS meetings everyday. The big wigs have made it "mandatory" to have webcams on at all times. Funny thing is that before all this madness NO ONE wanted a laptop with a camera. They'd put tape over the cam. They thought they were being spied on. So now they're all moaning that they want webcams. Effing dumbasses...... Oh you want a camera now right?
We have an annual sales conference. We have sales people in every province. This year it was supposed to be in June in Victoria BC. Obviously, we had to cancel it. At that time, my boss and I talked about maybe doing regional meetings in October (Halifax, Toronto, Vancouver or Calgary). We're not doing that. I hired two new sales people in Montreal in July. Normally we would fly them to Toronto for a week to see the office, meet the staff and train. Nope. All done remotely. Now we're talking about whether we can have a sales conference next year. I suggested that it be in a hub city to minimize the number of flight transfers. So we're looking at Montreal next September. That gives us a year for things to get better. It'll be interesting to see if it actually happens.
Oy. I would hate that. I try to keep my meetings down to 1 hour and training sessions to 1.5 hours. Anything longer than that, virtually, and I get squirrelly.Originally Posted by Duncan
LOL! We're almost always on camera. I try to guess whether people are wearing pants. Generally, I wear a nice top but ratty old shorts. I have to be careful not to stand up on camera.Originally Posted by Duncan
First of all, my condolences to Kevin. What an incredible loss.
Second, we made our trip to Bismarck to make a run at Costco. Everyone in Costco was wearing a mask, which is the total opposite of where we live. God, I am so sick of these knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing rednecks. Went to our local grocery store yesterday and even old folks who clearly had underlying chronic conditions were unmasked. I just found out that there was a wedding reception a couple weeks ago at our city auditorium. It's already generated about eight positive tests.
Third, I love speculating about who is wearing pants while my wife is watching news channels. NPR ran a story on what one scientist calling in to CNN shows and doesn't show. Yeah, she's wearing running shorts and there kids' toys all over the place. https://www.npr.org/sections/coronav...g-the-pandemic For the record, I refuse to believe that Stephanie Ruhle ever wears pants and you can't convince me otherwise.

When the current administration struck a deal to have Walmart take over TikTok, I was dumbfounded. As a web developer myself, I can say with authority the Walmart Website has been a trainwreck from the beginning. I'm sure young people are going to love whatever it is Walmart does with TikTok. And pissing off young people is a great way to keep them away from the polls.

I was going to celebrate a big accomplishment my wife made with a trip to a 5 star hotel in Montreal (on my visa points, . We were planning on a weekend in October but when the 2nd wave hit - we dropped the plan.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It was a beautiful service and a celebration of his life. Duncan, he wasn’t associated with Farpoint apart from being a big fan and supporter, and having his name in the “thank you” section of a few of our CDs.

Sorry for your loss, Kevin.
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you got to load or unload go to the White Zone!"
My Mom was in a Walmart here in Toronto today. She said that all the signs were still up, stickers on the floors, and someone checking for masks at the door. In fact, she said that there was teenager trying to enter without a mask and they refused to let him in. He started arguing with the Walmart employee but they wouldn't budge. Masks are mandatory here by city ordinance, so that would be a city thing, not a Walmart thing. I'm surprised they didn't give him a mask to wear. Most of the chain stores here will give you a mask if you don't have one. Some charge $1 for a mask and the money goes to the local food bank.
