Anyway the strategy will be evaluated by a commission consisting av various professors and experts and ready by February 2022.
    So what is the strategy?

    Obfuscation?
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

    That doesn’t sound terribly reassuring.

I think the push-back against herd immunity is that they really don't know if it will work. It makes no sense to rely on a guess with a new virus. Plus, how many extra people need to die?

If one doesn't build up many antibodies, or they dissappear fast, then it sounds like impossible.

If so, then the prospects for an effective vaccine are also not very good. The strategy of New Zealand relies on vaccine so if there were one national experiment in this pandemic you find it there.

Well it's not herd immunity and I did try to summarize the practical aspects previously.
But I found a quote from the chief epidemiologist with
an answer to that question, and ran it through Google translate:
"It is about trying to keep the spread of infection down as much as possible,
so that you have time to handle it in best way possible."
That doesn't really provide much info, does it?
But what differs with other countries is not locking down hard first
and then releasing gradually, but a long term solution that can remain
    in place.

It is the result of political bickering in parliament.
I think all parties were reasonably happy with the result.
Anyway it has been praised by WHO because other countries
could learn from it, they hope.

A 20 month wait to announce a strategy? Good luck. I understand not jumping to an errant conclusion. But we don’t all have nearly 2 years to wait.

It is hard to draw conclusions now because Covid 19 is going to be here a long time.
We all wish there was a well working and tested vaccine here now and that a large part of the world with 7-8 billion people was vaccinated, but unfortunately it is going to take time.
Anyway I think the timing is at least partialy due to there being an election soon afterward.

I hope they don't hurry with the vaccine before it's 100% safe. Imagine what catastrophe it would be if there's some serious side effects when hundreds of millions of people are going to take it.

Oh, they'll hurry. It's all about selling and spinning, not about curing.

You can imagine the pressure in the US to get something out, no matter how half-baked, before November. Then if people start dying off, they'll whine about fake news and how they're being treated unfairly for saving civilization.

    Just watch.

    You think it's ugly now?

    Just wait.

I can see a situation where a working vaccine is developed by American research, whether public or private, and the current regime witholding it from other countries, unless they are willing to pay a (high price,) in some form or other. I almost can't imagine him not trying to leverage it.

It seems in general that small countries (democratic, developed) has much more succces controlling covid-19, than larger countries.

According WHO Covid 19 is mostly spread by coughs and sneezing where droplets are 5-10 micrometers or larger.

When it comes to mask there was an article published in Physics of Fluids about their effect.
    https://aip.scitation.org/doi/10.1063/5.0016018
    A short summary:
American researchers simulated coughs through various masks and measured the spread of droplets with lasers.
Without a mask they spread on average 2.4 meters, at most 3.6 meters.
Various types of masks limited the spread to various extents.
    * a home made mask decreased the spread to just 6 cm
    * a bandana to one meter
    * a folded handkerchief to 40 cm
    * a commercial mask to 20 cm.
They all leaked but the commercial mask leaked the least.

A double layer mask 2 1/2 inches was a safe distance.

The number for the home-made mask must be wrong then.

It was our case 30-35 days ago, for example:
We went from having 9 new cases on June 1 to 294 on July 07 and counting.

    Why?.
We follow instructions and act responsibly, but in the last days, we began to overconfident and let down the guard a little bit:
"We cannot overconfident, we need to be very careful and follow all the sanitary and physical distance regulations" are some of the daily words of our Minister of Health that some of us, Ticos and some foreign friends, don’t want to put into practice.

Health must prevail over the economy IMO: without health, there will be no economy and Costa Rica has always put health in first place.

    - Keep in mind that our population is just under 5,000,000 citizens -

    Tuesday, July 14, 2020.
As of July 14, the country registers 446 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 8,482 confirmed cases, with an age range of zero to 99 years. It is 3661 women and 4821 men, of whom 5965 are Costa Rican and 2517 are foreigners.

Despite pressure from Northern U.S. governments, our deputy PM said our borders will remain closed to the U.S.

Well, since we're already geopolitically isolated...
