Damn, that's a helluva story to start a thread. Never heard of Tyner but that story makes me think of A Mighty Wind and Ed Begley Jr's story in the movie.
Too cool. Life has those moments, eh?

Carry On My Blood-Ejaculating Son - JKL2000
Sad loss.
One of the best improvisers, on any instrument, ever. Full stop.
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell

There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind. ∞
Duke Ellington.
Yeah, I'm bummed about this. Last night I listened to his first solo album, "Inception." Interesting to hear how steeped in bebop he still was at the time; he had recently turned 24. I'm glad that I've seen him live twice, but wish it had been more. R.I.P. McCoy.
A musician of the highest order. May he rest...
I saw MT at least twice in the last 20 years. Once at the Blue Note in NYC. No nonsense , kick ass set. Sat down , no nods , fidgeting , just blew right into it.
RIP.
One year ago:
RIP MCoy Tyner
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
Given what happened about a week after his death, I never really had a proper listening tribute to him.
Going to rectify that, starting tomorrow, with his solo stuff, and then on with Coltrane's stuff.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.
Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.
I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.
