King Crimson | The Zappa Band - Tour

    From DGM site:
King Crimson will be touring for six weeks this summer in June and early July together with the Zappa band in the USA and Canada. The full list of dates is yet to be confirmed, but today does see the announcement of a concert at The Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia on June 30th.
Tickets will on sale to the general public on Saturday, but as usual, we will be emailing 1000 Club members and DGM subscribers with details of our own Royal Package seats.

Does anybody know about “The Zappa Band”? Haven’t located any official news.

Go to the king crimson news thread - Zappa band is NOT Dweezil, it’s the band that backed the Zappa hologram, but they will NOT be using the hologram, it’ll all be live. So that’s that - that’s all we know.

    From JamBase.com article:

Guitarist Mike Keneally revealed he will be joined in the Zappa band by fellow FZ alums bassist Scott Thunes, guitarist Ray White and multi-instrumentalist Robert Martin as well as Zappa Plays Zappa drummer Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers — the musicians who participated in the Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa tour, aka the Hologram Tour. A report indicates former Zappa Plays Zappa guitarist Jamie Kime will also be part of the Zappa band. Full details are expected soon.

So will the recordings they used for the fraudulent Zappa still be played over the sound system?

I don't know if they'll be using any backing recordings, but my guess would be since this is NOT the hologram show the band will be playing versions of Zappa tunes all on their own, which sounds excellent to me.

I didn't see any of the Bizarre World of FZ tour. Did they have a hologram of him sitting around having a smoke and a cup of coffee when not playing?
Maybe KC could add a few holograms of former drummers.

“fraudulent Zappa” he says :-P 😆

Yeah, no pre-recorded tracks on this tour, it’ll be all live playing.

No, a hologram of Bill Bruford playing drums. IMO the last LC show I saw will be my last if they don’t get one good drummer. That show with 3 drummers was irritating and annoying. The mix didn’t help either.

Yup, I'm in for this, I like the Dweezil band a lot but this band sounds pretty damn cool too, the lack of the hologram (actually Peppers Ghost not a hologram) is a big plus for me.

Curious about how the Zappa Family Trust is dealing with this. They've gotten over Dweezil using the name and now they're letting this band do the same? I think that's great! I thought the hologram idea was really cheesy, to use a Zappaism, but there's no denying the skills of the group and the more that Zappa's music is played, the better!

Is that a Zappa hologram or a Sears hologram?

Letting? This is the official ZFT band. (Interesting how MK has gone from dog head 15 years ago to bandleader now. )

Really? Over Dweezil’s unit? (No pun intended!)

No. The band that toured last year. Dweezil's band is different.

I would love to see the Zappa band add Adrian Belew to the mix. He could do frame by frame as a solo spot
