Godsticks sit at the heavier end of Kscope's roster, with their songs written around strong guitar riffs and a heavy groove.

They've been compared to The Pineapple Thief, probably because both bands toured together and Godsticks' main man Darran Charles also helped out TPT on additional guitar duties on stage. There are similarities in their songwriting styles, but Godsticks lean more towards the metal end of the post-progressive genre.

They've also been labelled prog-metal, because of their tricky time signatures, but imho it's a misleading description, especially on their new album Inescapable where they've grown as songwriters and arrangers and side-stepped the usual prog-metal cliches. To be honest, I'm more inclined to compare them to the likes of Led Zep, in the way that both bands focus on the songs and come up with heavy guitar riffs that have groove to them. And some of the songs have a similar structure to the material on Porcupine Tree's Deadwing album.

If you're unfamiliar with the band, but are interested, here's my blog take on the new Inescapable album which came out last week:
