    Best 3 album stretch?

I rarely post, but was pondering this...thought I would bring the thought to prog-council...:-)

best three album stretch of brilliance in prog?

    The Yes Album
    Fragile
    Close to the Edge

    Nursery Cryme
    Foxtrot
    Selling England by the Pound

    Larks Tongue in Apic
    Starless and Bible Black
    Red

    Tarkus
    Trilogy
    Brain Salad Surgery

    Dark Side of the Moon
    Wish You were Here
    Animals

    Aqualung
    Thick as a Brick
    Passion Play

    Hemispheres
    Permanent Waves
    Moving Pictures

These are based on my opinions of the incredible stretches these legends had, the peak of their classic works. IMO.

my vote is the Yes stretch, but gosh there are great runs here. Proud to be a fan of what those brilliant series meant to music.

    peace my friends!

Genesis: Foxtrot - Selling England - Lamb
Yes: CttE - Tales - Relayer
Zappa: Waka/Jawaka - Grand Wazoo - Overnite Sensation and then Apostrophe - Roxy - One Size Fits All (6 unbelievable albums in a row)
Camel: Mirage - Snow Goose - Moonmadness
Renaissance: Turn of the Cards - Scheherezade - Live at Carnegie Hall
Saga: Images at Twilight - Silent Knight - Worlds Apart (or Saga - Images - Silent Knight if you prefer, all four are great)

This is a great thread! Watch it grow.

For Genesis, Selling England, The Lamb, and Trick Of The Tail
    For Yes, CTTE, Tales, Relayer
Crimson, a weak choice is SBB but I'd keep that one for the original poster
For Gabriel, III, IV, So (sorry to exclude I but II is weaker but still brilliant)
For Marillion, Brave, Afraid of Sunlight, This Strange Engine (last one a bit of a weaker link but I absolutely love the previous 2).
For Mahavishnu Orchestra - Inner Mounting Flame, Birds of Fire, Between Nothingness & Eternity

I could go on and on but this is definitely a thread that will go on for a long time.
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound.

All good choices, hard to argue with any of them. I'd add these for consideration:

    Area - Arbeit Macht Frei
    Area - Caution Radiation Area
    Area - CRAC!

A Triggering Myth - The Sins of our Saviours
A Triggering Myth - Forgiving Eden
A Triggering Myth - The Remedy of Abstraction

Deus Ex Machina - De Republica
Deus Ex Machina - Equilibrismo da Insofferenza
    Deus Ex Machina - Cinique

Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste
    Gentle Giant - Three Friends
    Gentle Giant -Octopus

    - or -

Gentle Giant - In a Glass House
Gentle Giant - The Power and the Glory
    Gentle Giant - Freehand

    King Crimson - Thrak
King Crimson - The ConstruKction of Light
King Crimson - The Power to Believe

    Kotebel - Ouroboros
Kotebel - Concerto for Piano and Electric Ensemble
    Kotebel - Cosmology

Bill, your GG choices are awesome. For modern day Crim, I love your 3 choices. I think Construction of Light is highly underated. The Belew tune, Coda: I have a Dream (which references Martin Luther King) is emotionaly spellbinding. Power To Believe is a stone cold classic, on par with Red.

    Thanks!

I'm in complete agreement with you about ConstruKction of Light. It may actually be my favorite KC album, it's certainly one that gets a ton of spins in my house and never seems to grow old. I know it has its detractors, but something about that one grabbed me and never let go. It was in some respects me entree to Belew-era Crimson, which I'd had trouble bonding to before, but this album opened me up to revisiting and better connecting with the earlier Belew stuff. I also love Power to Beleive, just spun it the other night for the first time in a while and it was as fresh as ever.

Nothing to disagree with on any of these, except many of these same artists had 4 or 5 or 6 in a row I could list.

This along with VDGG (H to He..., Pawn Hearts, Godbluff & Still Life) are the two that jumped out to me immediately.

I don't think there is any other artist where I would give a 5/5 for three (or four) albums in a row.

I would choose a trio of albums that really stands out in a band's discography, - not 3 albums among 5 or 7 consecutive great albums.

Maneige and Banco are the first that come in mind, the ones that I associate more with the phrase "those 3 records...".
