    R.I.P. Kobe Bryant

The Lakers' basketball legend is reported dead from a helicopter crash. He was 41.

Just saw this on Pitchfork. So sad. Way too young to go.

It already has. His 13-year-old daughter was aboard, as well. Along with one of her teammates and that girl's father.

I wasn't a big Kobe fan, but this is gut wrenchingly sad.

So awful... Such an unfair turn of events.

This was shocking. Way too young. I'm not a Lakers fan, but Kobe was a dazzling player for sure. I'd say one of the 10-15 most noteworthy athletes in major American sports over the past 30 years. And a charming and articulate guy, from what I recall of the times I happened to catch him on Leno or other late-night talk shows. So sad that his 13 year old daughter was on the helicopter, and RIP to the three others who died in the crash as well.

Now they're saying 8 people in total have died. People on the ground must've been killed.

Horrible news. When initially reported, I thought it was TMZ up to the usual. Unfortunately, it was not.

Heard about this very close to the source. My stepmother is cousin to Kobe's wife. My father is a huge Lakers fan. He loved Kobe.

The best memory for me would be when I was fortunate to get photo access to the Lakers at the 2002 Back-To-Back-To-Back Championship Parade. I'll post some pics when I get some time.

    RIP

I watched the video of it going down, nobody could have survived that crash. I read the pilot was certified on a helicopter, only an airplane.

^^ There's a fake video going around. I'm sure that's not the only thing that's fake. Be careful what you read and share. It's easy enough to verify.

Nephew text me so I went looking and for about 10 minutes could only find any info from TMZ. Hoping they were wrong but they got it right. Massive talent and it seems he was doing very well for himself and others in his post NBA life. RIP to all involved in the crash

I think it was a fake video, but the crash was real.

I don't think there's any video of the actual crash, just the aftermath.

I still haven’t come to grips with this. Just so heart wrenching and unbelievable. I’ve been a lifelong Lakers fan, more of the Showtime era when growing up, but still a fan as an adult. Perhaps the most firery competitor to play the game besides MJ.

Been a rough start to the year. Losing one of my biggest musical heroes (Peart) and sports heroes so close together. Tough pill to swallow.

    RIP Black Mamba.
