New Tangerine Dream album - Recurring Dreams

Looks like they are re-recording some classic tracks, coming out on K-Scope:

With Recurring Dreams, the new generation of Tangerine Dream pay homage to the band's timeless beginnings with captivating and emotional renditions of selected classics, such as "Phaedra", "Stratosfear", "Tangram" and "Yellowstone Park". These new recordings are not just re-recorded covers but heartfelt and individual interpretations, featuring all generations of synths and sequencers, added layers and new arrangements, applying Froese's new quantum dream to these highly influential tracks. Recurring Dreams also includes the new version of "Claymore Mine Stalking" that was used in the popular 2018 black metal movie Lords of Chaos.

Yes, this seems like a needless effort; I would prefer to go back to the originals (even prior to Froese watering them down himself). I also would be more interested in the Neuland release with Baumann & Haslinger, which I believe is out now (previous post announced it).

How many times can these great pieces be rehashed?

At least these "new" versions were not ruined by Froese's heavy "tangetisation" process, but still a wasted effort (IMO), unless If honouring the legacy of the (old) TD by endlessly milking/recycling the old material up to the last drop was the goal. But E.F was already very good at this game, so maybe this is some kind of tribute to him ?

Endlessly it seems. Skipping this one. Neuland is quite good.

This lineup put out Particles plus Sessions I, II, II, IV, and V. I have the first four, and they're better than most TD I've heard since the mid-80s. This sort of reboot of older material is what Froese tended to do from the 90s onward, so maybe it sells better. Me, I'll be picking up the last two Sessions before this.

Thank you to battema and tangram for the Neuland recommendation (and for the other key releases from former TD members mentioned in battemas post). Definitely going to purchase Neuland and look into some of the other projects out there.

In my mind, all one has to do is play the original Phaedra album on the Virgin label from 1974 to realize the pure genius behind the early T-Dream phenomena. When I bought the vinyl release all wrapped in plastic from the import section at a record store called Caper's Corner, I had no idea what was in store for my listening experience. After listening to it the first time I was flabbergasted at what was coming out of my Pioneer speakers. I became an instant fan of Berlin school electronic music and never looked back.

I later read a critics review of the album who stated that the only way he could possibly describe this sound to the uninitiated listener is that it is "music that melts". Well stated.

I really like the Quaeschning, Schnauss and Yamane TD incarnation. Apart from composing new music they re-interpret classic TD tracks with new synths and software and a different approach. Recurring Dreams was also planned as a "best of" at the occasion of the "Zeitraffer" exhibition at the Barbican, that I like to see.

Nah...after 40+ years, TD and Froese's estate can and will do what they want. And after 30+ years of following them and throwing countless $$ at releases both amazing and awful, I can and will speak frankly about what *I* think of them
