    RIP Carlos Alvarado Perea

After a long battle with cancer. A great keyboard player.

I will not list the bands he was into. Those familiar with the Mexican progressive scene will pay their respects.

    RIP.

Sad to hear, I know (and love) him from his work with Decibel, a very unique band.

Ι only know Decibel, but tomorrow I intend to listen to some of his other projects. Rest in peace.

He was utterly versatile and played several styles of progressive, with Decibel being the most impressive and their Contranatura one of the greatest Mexican albums of 'our' ilk. He was also in symphonic rock group Chac Mool, with space-rock combo Via Lactea in the 70s and apparently performed as occasional live session keyoboardist with Banda Elastica and (either) Nazca or their offshoot Culto Sin Nombre (can't remember which).

Sad to hear of his passing. Musicians like him don't ever seem to get their due.
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM

    Yes S.S.!.

"Culto sin Nombre is a direct descendant, both in lineage and in style, of the mysterious Mexican RIO ensemble, Nazca.
Juan Carlos Ruiz, who founded Culto Sin Nombre, previously played in the aforementioned Nazca. He also recorded with the highly respected Mexican prog/RIO band, Decibel, as well as with, Carlos Alvarado a former member of Decibel and a highly influential prog/space musician in his own right."

I would like to add if you don't mind:

    - Vía Láctea ‎– Vía Láctea (1982): many "experts" think that this album was the first electronic progressive rock work made in Mexico published by the independent record label "Momia" that he founded to be able to record and edit his own works.

    - Decibel - El Poeta Del Ruido (aka Contranatura) (1979): agree and I share your enthusiasm ... one of the greatest!.

Decibel (México,1980) - El poeta del ruido (Full Album + Bonus Tracks)

    - Chac Mool:
"Nadie en Especial (1980), Sueños de Metal (1981) y Cintas en Directo (1982)" are good albums that are a mix of progressive rock, electronic music and pre-Hispanic rhythms; "Caricia digital (1984)" is their fourth and last one with a big drastic change in the musical direction such as the elimination of progressive rock rhythms and the adoption of "new-wave" for example.

The band disintegrated at the end of 1985.

Decibel's In Concert is a top notch release which always flies under my radar when thinking of the great live albums in all of prog.

    RIP
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

I'm only here to reglaze my bathtub.

Great post Tomas. I will be checking your suggestions.

El Poeta Del Ruido is simply one of the best RIO albums of all time for me. Carlos is a great player, both on piano and on synthesizers.

Played my Vía Láctea vinyl yesterday. Great aural companion to Jorge Reyes' Ek-Tunkul album. We probably should have a post on mexican ethno/electronic/space prog albums of the era...
