    This from Rush's official page:

It is with broken hearts and the deepest sadness that we must share the terrible news that on Tuesday our friend, soul brother and band mate of over 45 years, Neil, has lost his incredibly brave three and a half year battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). We ask that friends, fans, and media alike understandably respect the family’s need for privacy and peace at this extremely painful and difficult time. Those wishing to express their condolences can choose a cancer research group or charity of their choice and make a donation in Neil Peart's name.

    Rest in peace brother.

I'm in tears over someone I never met but whose words and music means so much to me.

Stunning in the extreme. It doesn't seem real.

Died with dignity. Being famous/ being well known and in the public eye, gives many, little to no privacy. Happy he went his way, in private. Nobody needs attention from well-meaning; or not strangers. Nobody's business but friends and family. R.I.P. Neil, a life well-lived; with hapiness, joy and pain; just like the rest of us.

    So sorry to hear it.

One of the greats for sure.

I am just stunned. At first I thought, this has to be a hoax. Damn!

Though I saw the Holy Triumvirate many times, it never was enough. I will cling to the memory of those shows, all those precious recordings, all the joy his words and music brought me.

    And fuck cancer!

A co-worker just told me and I didn't believe him until I logged in here. So utterly devastating for the music world and all Rush fans, myself included. Looks like a night of just Rush music and a few toasts to the Professor.

RIP Neil you will be sorely missed.

Fucking glioblastoma killed my nephew at 35. Now it has taken one of the world's great musicians and drummers. I am without words. An idol! Dammit! He suffered so much earlier in his life and then suffered again later. I am heartbroken.

Very surprised to read this and very sad.

A fantastic drummer...and as Dana states, he endured far more than his share of personal suffering, which makes this doubly sad.

The live version of Spirit from Exit... played in my car on the way home. Made for a nice drive in the cool air, gave me energy after a long day.
Then I read the news. Then I read it again somewhere else to see if it was wrong.
    Nope.

I'm glad he got to live the last small part of his live without us involved. I hope he got what he wanted from it, and I wish he'd had more time.
