^PS - Joy is still my ultimate favorite by Ayers, although I have learned to really appreciate the first big chunk of his discography. I dig the subtle "prog-isms" in the music but largely its just great, quirky, sometimes psych-ish, and very very English POP music. LOVE his voice as well.

I find what I've heard from them a real slog to get through, sadly. But I like this...more typically 'Canterbury' at this point. Not dissimilar to Soft Machine tracks like '10:30 Returns To The Bedroom'. And also Egg's longer, more complicated excursions. I see in the comments it's a BBC session recording before they had any albums out.

Worth noting this YouTube account has an absolute treasure-trove of other BBC sessions. Wow. Will definitely be exploring this.

It finally stopped snowing after about 24 hours! It finally looks like 'Canterbury January' to me out there. Beginning this Sunday's listening with Kevin Ayers' Joy Of A Toy, a fun, oddball album that I've always really liked, if perhaps mostly linked to the Canterbury genre by the cast of players rather than the overall sound. But it's a great one IMO!

Speaking of Kevin Ayers, was Shooting At The Moon, the book his daughter Galen published last year, discussed?

It's funny, reading this fascinating discussion - to me, if anything feels undeveloped, or primitive, it's not the music, but the conceptualisation. Not the politics - although here, the expression is pretty inchoate. But the conception of the nature of music - there is a fundamental misconception, in the conflation of "reasoned" with "objective truth" which betrays a philosophical rationalism which is both naïve & at odds with the materialist dialectics of the political philosophy.

The Germ Patrol is the perfect song for me to listen to this morning, apparently. What a gem! The little horn solo at the end is exactly the right way for it to finish.

Nice video indeed, the guy is pretty good.

A couple of mistakes in what he says though - there's no guitar solo by Pye Hastings in "Winter Wine", but a (great) organ solo by Dave Sinclair. And "Castle In The Clouds" from Gong's "Angel's Egg" consists of just electric guitar with a delay pedal - so no synths to be heard in that.

Agree with you 100%. It's not a "perfect" review, but its pretty damn good for a young-ish kid (like Steve said). I also had to forgive him for not one mention of "Dirty Boy" when he reviewed Sing to God, otherwise it was another really decent review. Search his channel for some more interesting stuff if you so desire - has covered stuff like Waits, Miles, Crimson, Swans, etc

Thanks for the reminder, Zapp man. I really liked their previous releases so this one is on my list. I'm debating whether to get the digital release, or go for the CD if there is one.

Anyone know if a physical release is planned?
