I remember a series a few years ago that the Twins had against the Astros. It was three solid days of pitching meltdowns with the Astros hitting EVERYTHING. Every staff melts down now and then with bullpens getting worn out but generally a starter will staunch the bleeding the next day. And now I know what happened.

This is going to be the joke of the league for years to come. Any win from the Astros will be met with smirks and ridicule against them. I look forward to all Houston away games to include heavy booing and chants of "CHEATERS! CHEATERS!" from those home teams.
I have been waiting for three years for the new Rangers stadium. When I lived in Seattle, I went to many Mariner games. I moved to Texas and attended exactly one Ranger game, and suffered heat stroke. Now that they have a humane place to play, I'll probably become a much bigger baseball fan. Amazing what some people will suffer through to be a fan. Baseball is a far superior game when watched live.
I have been recording games and speeding through between pitches, commercials and blather. I can watch a game in about an hour on TV. But its just not the same experience.

The mighty Reds have made significant improvements this off season. Dare I say, they might actually contend this year?

No discussion of the Red Sox trading Betts and Price? I had to drive out to Western MA today, and it was all over sports blab, which I eventually turned off in favor of some tunes.
Personally, I'm fine with it. Maybe would have liked to see some more prospects come to the Sox in the deal, but whatever. I don't think Mookie is worth the money he will command, and I think the closer he gets to free agency, the less likely the Sox would have been to get anything for him. Plus the Dodgers eating half of Price's salary is addition by subtraction, imo. I don't actually hate Price, but his time here was over and it was going to take something like this to get him gone. I expect Bloom to make some more moves before all this if over. Sox should be in full rebuild mode by mid-season, and I'm fine with that.
Dodgers appear locked and loaded, but I'm not sure their championship chances really got that much better adding Betts and Price, both of whom have been mostly invisible in the post season (Price excluded, last year only). We'll see how it all clicks.

It's an ok trade for the Sox, we'll see where they are at the end of the season.

Twins give up an extremely promising pitcher for what they hope is a sure thing at #3 in the rotation. It's a roll of the dice but we'll take it. Bullpen is loaded with beasts and the lineup might even be stronger than last year if everyone stays healthy.

Absolutely excellent trade, pretty much for all parties. The Dodgers have become the clear favorites in the NL. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but they will get there. They can address playoff needs in July.
The Twins get a solid add to their rotation, and look ready to compete for the central.
The Sox shed payroll and got good value for one year of Betts they would not have gotten later. Verdugo is a downgrade from Betts of course, but major league ready and can be a top 100 player. Graterol has potential as a starter or reliever. The Sox can gauge by July if other pieces need to go. Where Dombrowski raped the minors to get a championship, look for Bloom to replenish the farm this year and next while not going “full rebuild”.
WANTED: Sig-worthy quote.
Looks like the trade is being held up after medical review of one of the players the Sox got. Seems like the guy who was considered a starter is actually better-suited for the pen. The Sox are, apparently, looking for more.
So Betts and Price went from my least-favorite team to my second-least favorite. So real change, except that I won't see them until possibly the WS. I won't miss Betts, but I will miss Price, since he was a bit of a punching bag for NY.
I didn't even know about the trade until after I posted about Paxton.

The media are hinting that the Twins just backed out of the deal. Fine with me and most of the fans on Twitter. Boston's GM has some 'splainin' to do on how he mismanaged this thing.

What? Teams don't get the full medicals on a player until after a trade deal is in place, and the trade is provisional on the players passing those physicals. There's every reason to believe that Graterol's medicals looked worse than anticipated, despite the known issues. If that is true, it is customary for teams to go back and try to fine-tune the deal. How is that mismanaging anything? That is the very essence of managing a trade.
At this point, they're talking with Dodgers about other options, so they obviously still want to get the trade done, and it most likely will get done. But why should the Red Sox accept a player that upon reviewing their medical record they deem unfit?
Bill
Looks like the Betts deal is falling apart unless the Dodgers can throw in another chip/more money to cover Price's salary, or if they can find another third team. Minnesota appears to be backing out.

Graterol is down in FL throwing in triple digits. I think Boston got cold feet because the fans and press didn't like giving up Mookie for just a relief pitcher. And it's up to the Dodgers to sweeten the deal because the Twins trade was to the Dodgers who then moved Graterol to Boston.

Twins were pretty open that Graterol is not a starter...yet. He's got to work up to that amount of innings. The kid is only 21 and has never pitched that amount of innings. Was Syndergaard throwing 200 innnings at 21, or Verlander?
