Bob and Mike's old home recordings

Some of you might enjoy some of these things dug up from my cassette collection. Includes a couple of proto-Thinking Plague pieces from 1979, a some Plague demos, a long improv piece, a bit of music we did for a horror film that wasn't used, and some more.

Massive. This stuff will one day form the cornerstone of the Bob Drake Museum!

I just listened to other zones excerpt and really enjoyed it.
It's great you have kept this stuff and to me other than the limitations of the cassette medium of the time, the music is timeless.
I assume you transferred these to digital at some point, mind sharing your experiences doing that?
Thanks again Bob, time permitting I want to check out the rest of this wonderful collection.

Nothing fancy - the same routine whenever I copy something from a cassette: Plug my cassette deck into the A/D converter, play the tape to hear if the tape head alignment needs adjusting, then record it as a 32 float wav in Samplitude. If it's a cassette that hasn't been played in a very long time, before copying it I always fast-forward to the end and then rewind it to get any potential kinks out of it.

Besides editing after it's copied, I don't do much unless there is something I consider a problem. If it sounds good I don't do anything. I don't think I did anything to the Bob and Mike stuff. Obviously there are times when a tape is horribly degraded or needs clearing up, like the After Dinner cassette I recently worked on, or some of the stuff I had to use for those Henry Cow boxes. As long as the music comes across.

    Glad you enjoyed!!!!!!

There are MINOR things you can do with cassette recordings to goose the DR and lower the noise floor, but in general the media limitations rule how far you can go. That's okay. They are what they are.
