Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

I love this one. It's not instrumental, but still. And I love that ToP looks like a bunch of blue-collar guys playing, guys you'd hang out with and have a beer.

I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.

I do not. Not quite sure how to explain it, but James Brown is in a different universe for me. His instrumentals are not what I'd call blues today -- they're R&B or maybe "jump blues," a throwback to the 1940/50's and Johnny Otis, Little Milton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, that sort of sound. The beat is faster and more constant, the structures more strict, the feel is not laid-back but rather up-tight. More Charles Earland or The Meters than Booker T. I don't know how else to explain it.

Wow, Liquid Soul. Never thought I'd see them mentioned in here. Here or anywhere, for that matter. Great band, I have a bunch of their discs.

    Good call!

Yes indeedy, nice stuff!! I'm not familiar with them -- where do I start? I see the following under their name:
    • Here's The Deal
    • Liquid Soul
    • One-Two Punch
    • Synthetic Vibes
    • Evolution
    • Love In Stereo
    • Cocktails
    • Make Some Noise
    • Full On Fluoro, Vol.s 4 &5 (remixes only?)

Also Maceo Parker -- OF COURSE! I'd forgotten all about him! Thanks

Liquid Soul's best CDs are Here's The Deal, and Make Some Noise, imo. PE's Ernie Denov aka No Pride played guitar with them for a while. I believe he's on the Evolution CD which is not one of their better efforts, no fault of Ernie's.

    Pretty darn close!

Sampling their catalog online however I note that, like Maceo Parker, only a small minority of their output is instrumentals. Gonna take some extensive weeding to put together a CD-R.

I checked out this thread this morning. Later in the day I came across a thrift store find: Liquid Soul-Make Some Noise. Had I not heard about the band in this thread, I might have passed it by. Now playing. Thanks for the heads-up.

    Here's a listing of their discs: https://www.allmusic.com/artist/liqu...25/discography

Not really sure how bluesy they are, like AllMusic sez, they're more acid jazz, but they do have horns!

When Rasputin's was still functioning in my town, they had LS discs in the cutout bins all the time. I picked up their debut, Make Some Noise, Here's The Deal, Evolution, and One Two Punch that way. *sigh* Those were the days...

Hey, what about Rock Candy Funk Party? On Grooove Is King, they've gone horns, with Randy Brecker, Ada Rovatti & James Campagnola. They've got Joe Bonamassa involved, so you know there's gonna be some blues in there somewhere.
