As it is the tradition at the spacelab, I'll upload my annual list. However, a slight change this year; as music is more and more fractured nowadays I'll post only one album per sub-genre of my interest. What I personally considered as 2019's best.

Best Experimental/Avant album: BIOTA "Fragment For Balance" (recommended)

Best Art Rock album: Richard DAWSON "2020" (domino)

Best Retro Prog album: JORDSJO "Nattfiolen" (pancromatic)

Best Symhonic Prog album: KARFAGEN "Echoes From Within Dragon Island" (caerllysi music)

Best Kraut/Electronic album: LAUGHING EYE "Laughing Eye" (hoga nord)

Best Avant Progressive album: POIL "Sus" (dur et doux)

Best Cosmic/Trip Rock album: CENTRUM "För Meditation" (rocket recordings)

Best Space Rock album: COMACOZER "Mydriasis" (headspin)

Best Psychedelic album: SONORA SUNRISE "The Route Through The Canyon" (trail)

Best Acid Rock album: LEMURIAN FOLK SONGS "Ima 今" (private)

Best Stoner Rock album: MERLIN "The Mortal" (the company)

Best Doom Metal album: 1782 "1782" (heavy psych sounds)

Best Heavy Metal album: NEPTUNE POWER FEDERATION "Memoirs Of A Rat Queen" (erotic volcano)

Best Soul/Funk album: GHOST FUNK ORCHESTRA "A Song For Paul" (colemine)

Best Hard Rock/Classic Rock album: PHARLEE "Pharlee" (tee pee)

Best Garage Psych album: L' EPEE "Diabolique" (because music)

Best Folk album: TRAPPIST AFTERLAND "Insects In Amber" (sugarbush)

Best Industrial/Dark Ambient album: DEATHPROD "Occulting Disk" (smalltown supersound)

Best Electronica album: UTOPIA STRONG "The Utopia Strong" (rocket recordings)

Best Trance/Psybient album: DRIP DROP "In The Lost City" (harmonia)

    and

you forgot the best Goa Trance Avant Metal Jazz album
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

2019 albums I have most enjoyed (in alphabetical order)...

Anna Meredith, Fibs (uptempo contemporary classical?)
Firefly Burning, Breath Shallow (world/folk/avant elements)
Henry Cow, Cow Box Redux (yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge)
In Continuum, Acceleration Theory Part One: AlienA (prog concept album)
Jon Anderson, 1000 Hands: Chapter One (return to form for Anderson, combining new compositions with early '90s material that wasn't released at the time)
Steve Howe Trio, New Frontier (with co-writing by Bill Bruford)
Trevor Horn, Reimagines the Eighties (Horn covers '80s pop with orchestra: impeccably produced, of course)
Yes, From a Page (Oliver Wakeman songs dropped from Fly from Here)
Young Adults, Fine Arts (EP) (Russian pop duo with trombone)

They're too disparate to be directly compared. The Yes release was so excitingly unexpected. The Henry Cow box is amazing, but obviously not new music! I'd probably go with Fibs as my overall favourite.

I'd pick out "Scavengers" by In Continuum as my favourite piece of the year, followed by Meredith's "Inhale Exhale". Right now, I'm enjoying previews of two 2020 releases: David Cross & Peter Banks' Crossover and John Holden's Rise and Fall.

    Pattern Seeking Animals - S/T
This Winter Machine - A Tower Of Clocks
The Room - Caught In The Machine
Magic Pie - Fragment Of The Fifth Element

1979's top five would look like this:

    Kansas - Monolith
    Toto - Hydra
Camel - I Can See Your House From Here
    Renaissance - Azure D'or
Eloy - Silent Cries & Mighty Echoes
