I should have been more specific re: whether or not it was a full on reunion.
Maybe what I saw was a one off concert in The Bay Area, which featured both bands, which would make sense.

It was with Journey and not a solo show. He was fantastic all night. Did several great solos.

You had it right in the first place. Areas, Johnson, Peraza and Thompson were all current members at the time. The only exceptions were Rolie, Shrieve, and sometimes Schon, who apparantly didn't make the Florida show for whatever reason.

Check out his Spellbinder album, great stuff on it. Love Shrieve.

Anyone heard the album "Octave of the Holy Innocents" with Jonas Hellborg and Buckethead? The samples on amazon sound interesting at least.

This sounds like it could actually work, first 4 Santana lp's were a very special time, Abraxas start to finish is a gem. Throw in 2 songs from the first Journey album as a surprise in the middle of the set....just dreaming.......

You can buy both sets of the Sunrise Florida show at Wolfgang's Vault in FLAC no less. And that was one smokin' night! Definitely buy both sets because the set list is different and even on the songs that are duplicated, they have been jammed out so much they sound entirely different! I'm looking forward to a true Santana reunion. I saw them last year with the Allmans opening and Santana was absolutely awful, particularly his keyboard player was so mediocre, even Richard Baker from the Zebop/Shango era sounded better! The only awful show I ever saw Santana do in the 5 or 6 times I've seen his band since 1981.

I was just about to say not to get your hopes up.... until I read your last words...

Yup, wishful thinking.... I won't miss it for the world if they come in France or Benelux, but I'm not expecting that much....

I would love to see this! Hope it happens... and that it's not too expensive.

Also, I just recently read (but forget where) McLaughlin say he'd like to reunite with Carlos in honor of the 40th anniversary of the release of Love, Devotion, Surrender. How cool would that be?

Sounds good- much better than the elevator music Carlos has been doing.

Anything better than "Blah-Blah Song Featuring Taylor Beiber" sounds good.

Santana never did a song with Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift. That was with Def Leppard, but it was only with Taylor.

Have either of you heard Shape Shifter?
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

It was a joke. Maybe I should have been more blatant and gone with "Taylor Beiber McKardashian"?

Some of it. It's alright but I was expecting him to cut loose more. He needs to spaz out on that axe.

I was on the fence with Shape Shifter. On one hand I enjoyed the fact that he did something with a less comercial theme to it and I liked alot of the music, BUT....on the other hand, it seemed very sterile and lacking emotion with modern day brick walled production and synthetic keyboards. I feel as though it could have been much much better, but then much much worse also.
