Didn't like that version of 'From The Turn Of A Card' either. Too modern/neo prog for my current taste. I stopped listening to this sort of stuff years ago.

Of course it's possible Yes made more of it. For what it's worth I liked 'Hour Of Need' and 'Into The Storm' very much.

The vocals in those 2 Yes YouTube videos do not sound like Benoit David at all, in fact I believe they're Paul Manzi who was in the Oliver Wakeman Band in 2008.
Paul Manzi is the current vocalist for the band Arena and as an Arena fan I'm very familiar with his vocals, so I think this is him in the YouTube video.
Here is a video of him singing with OWB for the Coming to Town Live DVD.
Thought it might help to compare the vocals of this and the Yes video.
I could be wrong, it just doesn't sound like Benoit David to me.

"Credit Carnival" is a bad title but the instrumental section is quite good.

Just based on these Youtube selections, it sounds like Oliver may have inherited his dad's penchant for cheesy lyrics. Great instrumentalists & arrangers both, but not so good with words. IMHO

Yes, this was what was recorded before Horn came in to produce the whole album (as opposed to just "We Can Fly") and was dropped. So this wasn't produced by Horn. It was Tim Weidner who was acting as producer as the time, although Oliver appears to be claiming the producer credit having assembled these recordings.

I think this release shows that the interpretation that Return Trip was writing David out of history was just hogwash. While Return Trip was coming out, Oliver was working on this release. Return Trip was never about getting rid of David/Wakeman, but about retrospectively trying to create a Drama reunion.

Prior to Horn taking over fully, the album was these four songs, "The Man You Always...", "Hour of Need", "Into the Storm" and "We Can Fly" (the last only produced by Horn). "Solitaire" was a later addition.

That YouTube is of a later re-recording of the track with Gordon Giltrap as opposed to the version we've yet to hear on From a Page. But, yeah, it's not a great song. "The Gift of Love" is much better.

It's Manzi on "Credit Carnival", but David on "From the Turn of a Card"; see http://relayer35.com/Yescography/RavensAndLullabies.htm

Henry, how do you know Gift of Love is better? Does it border on being another ten minute mini epic in their catalog? Fingers crossed it does... This lineup could use one.

I am a vast but gentle plant with tendrils. I have not heard any of From a Page, but I've heard indications. I very much look forward to hearing it. Do I expect a set of songs that were rejected for Fly from Here to be among Yes's very best? No. Do I want to hear 'new' Chris Squire playing? Very much so.

I was ready to order this on vinyl, but need to be reassured with some sound examples before I commit.

I am currently holding off on ordering the vinyl (I do not need a second Live From Lyon, bonus track or not), although I am really interested in this release. The (insured & tracked) postage to NL cost nearly just as much as the product itself, and nowhere does it mention a complimentary download when you buy the vinyl. So, I keep waiting for a more general release.

I like it, good vocals, good solos, and it's nice to hear Chris. Could have been a single if there was still such a thing.

    Sounds OK to me.
Thanks for the link. I'm glad the music is seeing the light of day. Mostly for Benoit as much as for Oliver. The song itself does nothing for me, but again -- glad it's out there now.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.

This is a nice sounding tune. Sounds like David had more of an intent to sound like Anderson here, I think David had said that Trevor Horn came in and told him not to try to sound like Anderson for the FFH tunes.

Oliver Wakeman has a lot of stylistic and playing tendencies that are very Rick Wakeman, which is not a shock but it’s nice to hear the Wakeman sound on a Yes record. What a class act he is, he handled the whole situation brilliantly, you get the feeling the band was thankful for that and now we have this to hear.

I pray something on this EP will be LOUD but this band has become so gentle over the past 20 years.

It seems to me that the treatment of Oliver by Yes was a big part of Rick’s animosity since then

Who knows, perhaps this release will help heal some wounds on all sides.

this is pretty cool considering the tracks were abandoned, it actually has some interesting harmonic movements and stuff, instead of being 100% cheese, though there is a decent bit of that thrown in the mix too of course, being latter day Yes very excited to receive the record and hear the rest (and full version of this). wonder if the shipping notifications are accurate and if they'll start to be received next week. i hope the bits cut out of this single version might be some instrumental excursions instead of repetition.

funny enough, I think benoit sounds very much like jon davison here. i like it.

I think it's terrible. Helpless songwriting, terrible lyrics and dreadful production. One of the main questions I ask as a listener is: What is the purpose of this song? What is the songwriter trying to convey? Here I have no idea. It is music, of some sort, but seems entirely without purpose or direction, beyond trying to sound vaguely, superficially Yessy.

It's OK...certainly better than 'The Man You Always Wanted Me To Be'.

I hear Benoit David straining a little on the higher notes, as he did in the live shows. His natural range is arguably closer to Horn's than Anderson's, as Fly From Here ultimately made clear.

I think this should have been re-released with the original Fly From Here, rather than a live album. The original version of FFH has been out of print for some years.

Well, the only version of FFH getting a re-release is not the one with David.

I'm annoyed that I have to either buy the Live In Lyon set again for £20 or buy a 25 minute vinyl for £20. I imagine this was the only way they could make money out of it but a single cd would have been preferable. Also, if I buy the vinyl I have no way of getting it onto cd or WAV since my cd recorder broke

It will be released in other formats in due course... where "due course" may mean many, many months more.

Does anyone know how much they charge(vinyl) for shipping to US?
I don't have an account and don't want to open one if it's too much money.
