New album from Aksak Maboul in 2020!

Great news! Aksak Maboul is releasing new album in 2020 and it is a double. Un Peu de L'Ame des Bandits (1980) is one of my all-time favourite albums so I am quite excited with these news.

Here is all that is currently know:

Happy to announce that the new Aksak Maboul album will be coming out in Feb/March 2020.
It’s entitled ‘Figures’, and is a double album (2CD - 2LP) containing 22 tracks (interludes included): it took no less than that to accommodate the flow of ideas which arose after such a long gap!…
The album was wholly written & produced by Marc Hollander and Veronique Vincent, and features the members of Aksak Maboul’s current live line-up: Faustine Hollander, Lucien Fraipont and Erik Heestermans. As well as friends and guests including Fred Frith, Tuxedomoon’s Steven Brown, AQUASERGE’s Julien Gasc, Audrey Ginestet & Benjamin Glibert), Michel Berckmans and more.

Hard to think of a more impeccable list of special guests.

Recent (last three years) Aksaq/k Maboul outings have been much more Honeymoon Killers than Maboul stuff.

So don't expect anything close to 11 Danse or Bandits RIO stuff, but some poppy electronew wavish pop.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I know about Ex-Futur Album (2014) which I like but what other outings do you mean? Live gigs? Anyway I think that guest starring list of the new album would point to more avant direction... (I hope!)

Has it already been that long??

That's the only one I know of (and didn't like) but I figured there might've been other stuff out there since

Saw them twice live.... interesting lively show, but not my cuppa.

Not expecting Onze Danse part 2
But with these guests it could be intresting

I wonder why they insist on the Aksak moniker
Its a household name is it ;-)

"Honeymoon Killers" has connotations a little too real these days?

With Marc you can expect anything, also the unexpectable.... Not the kind of guy endlessly repeating the same formula. And the friends and guests listed are not particulary known for playing new-wave pop. Since I would NOT be interested by a carbon copy of 11 Danses I'll keep my ears (and mind) open to this...

What you don't seem to quite understand is that Lord Nelson is a Prog Dog, while this Aksak Mac is nothing but a kinda quack.

Great and unexpected news, thanks! Funny, I've been listening to the old albums just this week.

I do agree, but in a way it's kind of funny in that the HK at least had a relatively established name as a cult underground combo. Perhaps there are contractual reasons why he isn't allowed to activate that moniker, if that's what he really aimed at - musically speaking?

In any regard I think it's pretty far-fetched to expect anything as stupendously original and innovatively different as those first two Aksaks. They were about as colourfully fascinating as 'experimental' European rock ever got, IMHO. At least this side of ZNR and Debile Menthol.

There are also some "Maboulish" moves in their current live sets thus there's some hope... and nice to see Marc is still using his old analog keyboards (Farfisa organ,...) My only regret is that Catherine Jauniaux does not appear in the guest list for this new project, she would have been the strongest guard against any HK/poppy excesses...

^ Thx for posting; that's actually very, very good.

As for Catherine J. I always found it very sad how she apparently abandoned (at least) parts of her career when Tom Cora died. In any regard she downplayed it; apart from her recordings with Ikue Mori (etc.) - what did she do? I seem to remember them having a child together (which obviously begged the necessity of regular income), yet I believe she still performed at a couple of the MIMI annuals, or? She was such a talent, that lady.

Fluvial is an absolute classic mid-80s release in my book.

... she was (and still is ?) very active in the avant-garde/experimental scene and played (performed) worldwide with lots of different musicians, the most well-know one being Barre Phillips.

Here in 2015 with Jean-Sébastien Mariage (gtr):

Good points of course, but I was warning that one should expect something as far-reaching as this:

    or

as opposed to 11 Danses pour un Bandit

I'd even say that THK (or its french translation Tueurs de la Lune De Miel) is much more of a household name than Aksak/q ever was, so it wouldn't make sense to revive the latter, unless there is a good reason why they couldn't use the former... especially that the new project sounds much more THK-esque than AM.

Last thing that I've heard from her is her appearance on the 2nd Hat Shoes album. But that was early 00s...

It is no Bandits (and why would it be?) but quite successful combination of avant-stuff of the first two albums and electro-pop of Ex-Futur Album. I like it!
