A gentleman is defined as someone who knows how to play the accordion, and doesn't.
A fourth track that I'm planning to put on an album when I get enough pieces done. This one is about the ages long struggle for work/life balance.
It's got warm synths, Mellotron, pipe organ, Taurus synth bass (sampled), lead guitar, sweep arpeggios, a little section that I came up with where the guitars and bass play harmonies, arpeggiated guitar riffs, ambient guitar, E Bow guitars, a variety of cool stuff. It has a cool sounding bass. I decided not to use one of my Rickenbackers, and instead use a Hamer bass with active Jazz bass pickups that have a nice growl.

Catching up on the SC thread posts.
I love the Aerosmith version, but this bluesy version is quite different and I like it.
Great collaboration by everyone.
I really like your music, and I think Concept of Innocence is a wonderful album.
I agree with mister Clivey, great production, writing and playing.
Parts remind me of Marillion(in spirit), and that's a real nice instrumental break in the middle.
The amount of time, energy and hard work you put into this(especially clocking in over 9minutes) must've been extensive.
Great song, looking forward to your album.

Thank you for the kind words. And it means so much that someone out there has listened to the Concept of Innocence album and enjoys it. Jim, the drummer who played on that album, passed away last year. It was not only very sad, but a shock. He'd been in the hospital, but seemed to be doing better. Then his wife posted that he'd passed away.
We don't know how long we've got here. I've read lately about celebrity musicians, my age and younger, passing away. I've always felt I have this music in my soul and wanted to put it out there for people to enjoy. Parts of these songs are musical ideas I first had decades ago. It feels like only lately that I've learned how to write a decent song, and only in the last few years that the technology is available to the average guy to make home studio-recordings that sound somewhat on the same footing as pro studio recordings.
I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and bandmate's passing.
You are so right, we never know how much time the gift of life is here for us. I lost my best friend of 50 years plus back in Dec of 2017 from brain cancer.
We were also bandmates doing original music back in the early 70's and performed live for 2 gigs, including a Fall Festival in Plymouth, Michigan.
I will turn 75 this July, and although I don't dwell on it, the vision of the sand in the hour glass is always around the corner.
Just keep doing what you can, when you can, and share it whenever you can.
It's difficult to get exposure, and I feel people's short attention spans these days, prevent them from really listening to a song if it doesn't grab them in the first 15 seconds.
Keep the faith, and make music for yourself, and if others like it that's the icing on the cake.
If just one person likes your music, you're ahead of the game, and I think anyone who's been doing this for a long time, has realized you ain't gonna make a living at it.

I finished this song about a week ago, and just getting around to posting it around the net.
Lyrics were written by my friend and bandmate, Marvin Cripps.
When I read them, I knew I had to try and create a song to showcase these great lyrics.
Music&vocals..Richard Hermans

I will be posting a "lyrics" video for it on Friday 5/6/22
hope you enjoy, I"m taking a break from songwriting for a bit to recharge.
Between my last song, Release and this one, my batteries are drained.

I really love the sound quality and spacy texture of this. It all comes together and progresses in concept so well. Nice guitar arpeggios. The change in dynamics from one section to another is wonderful. And 9 minutes - a true PROG song - and yes, I listened all the way through. You know you have something really good when 9 minutes keeps the listener interested and engaged.

Thanks for listening and for your comments.
I enjoy your music, so to hear positive feedback really made my day, thank you.
I hear ya on the taking a break thingy. If you go too long, it's hard to get back on track.
Since I'm retired, I tend to put in 6 or more hours a day, except Saturday when I'm working on a new song, so when I'm finished I'm pretty drained. But I always say I'll take a break, and within a week I'm jamming and something will pop up.
Glad you like the morphs, those were quite difficult for me. I had the song pretty much done, but it was only 2 minutes and 19 seconds long and I couldn't put it out like that.
I didn't want to repeat the verse and chorus again, but wound up doing it, but tried to change it up a bit.
Thanks again.

Thank you so much Renate, I really appreciate you listening and commenting. (Love Bowie).
My wife and I kind of kicked back this week, relaxing and going to the beach, community pool and in the afternoon watching Law and Order marathon. lol
She was so wonderful and patient when I was locked away in my studio all day, only coming out to grab some lunch or a snack.
I just got a upgrade to EZ Drum software, so I'll probably get inspired while trying to learn it.
Thanks again.
Hope you don't mind me giving your new song a bump, I really like it a lot!

Really well-crafted and finely detailed song. I love the way you've layered your backing vocals, and how different styles play off against each other during the chorus. The bass tone sounds great and there are some excellent bass fills. Love the keys in the background at 3:35, and really appreciate the switch into a thicker organ tone and more complex guitar solo at 4:19; it really kicks the song into high gear. I also appreciate how passionate the vocals at 5:40 and how they contrast with the section afterward, and the dreamy coda is a wonderful way to send it out. Can't wait to hear a full album.

I continue to migrate to my new machine and have not chosen a new 64 bit DAW yet. This is not something to rush into and I want to retry Reaper and Try Bandlabs Sonar. I will need a good functioning Rewire as Reason is one of my primary sound modules.
Anyway here's a proggy instrumental I am faffing with at the moment.

Tee hee. Me. "tra la la ing" through Kerovee in Tri Chorus preset. I altered attacks of phrases in cubase wave editor. Mellotron was my bugged freeware Redtron which at least works. My usual fav tapeotronic refuses to work in Windoze 11 running my 19 year old cubase SX.
The joys of changing machines . but I now have a quad core i7 ,16 gig Ram and 2 TB,s of SSD in an almost old elite book which originally retailed for 5 grand and that I got from the fleabay very cheap.
Big step up from my old setup.

I'm really proud of this one boys and girls. It may be the hardest piece of keyboard work I've done in some time. A real classic PROG epic.
Enjoy

You really pulled it off. Probably my favorite Genesis song and defenitly the song with the best opening. It always makes me jump behind my keyboards. The vocals make it a bit different. Love the piano-opening, the synthesizersolo and the soprano sax. The electric piano (Fender Rhodes?) at the end is a nice touch.

Not enough music that uses Taurus bass pedals anymore!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone and putting your ears onto my collaborations..
Here's another rocker from 1967 that we did. I just love how it starts off super simple before getting into hard grunge rock.

If you want a real funny treat, look at the Vanilla Fudge video from the Ed Sullivan show. It's a hoot.
