I read the thread too casually and when I began listening I was under the assumption that it was literally about Yes, based on a joke someone made. And if someone had told me authoritatively that it was about twenty other bands I might have believed that too. Which means you succeeded!

When they replaced my smoke detectors, they left one old one on the table, with the back-up battery, that fitted in my old tuner. I used that to tune my dad's old banjo and today I recorded 3 notes in Cubase, which I edited in another program and put them back in Cubase as a 4 note part.

Not really, but the old smokedetector contained a 9v battery, which fitted in the tuner, I wasn't sure still worked. I had tried it with a powersupplie, but it didn't seem to work, so I considered it broken. But with the old battery, I decided to give it a try and it worked and because it's a multipurpose tuner, I could use it to tune the banjo.

Really interesting cover! I really like the flute synth tone in the intro, has a cool warble to it. The big synth bursts have a nice depth to them. The guitar line really captures that kind of bubbling, burbling texture of the original.

Thanks. It took a bit of research to find out what patch Peter used on that flute sound, but I found it in Arturia's V Collection of synths. As for those big synth bursts - there's a bout 5 different patches from different synth's combined together to get me that big big sound. I couldn't find any one that gave me that punch and range of tonality. Isn't the software great these days?

A very original tune with a bunch of influences (too many to name) that I hear. Very well done.

Really cool song, nice sense of pace and dynamics with an intensity that ebbs and flows in a very dynamic way. Love how big the synth swells get around the 1:05 mark, and how the echo is used on the vocal to create space. The classical-sounding guitar interlude at 3:01 is a lovely shift as well. Also like how it ends on a firm statement rather than fading or politely resolving to the root.

Thanks for taking the time to listen to the song and comment, everyone! It is always nice to hear others' thoughts.
I'm going back through and checking out the contributions from the last couple of months as I haven't been around as much lately.

My next listen will be my third. Near bedtime with my beer and Cigar.
Enjoyed it a lot and I will follow you on SoundCloud. There has been an awful lot of thought and work put into the piece, that's very very obvious. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks for taking the time to listen man. Also listening to your latest track.

This odd little number is Demo. 2nd half vocal is mainly improv tee hee.

You know those guitar jam offs, and the guitar and keys duels? Well I just did a keys and keys song with a friend on Bandlab in honor of George Jetson's birthday (July 31, 2022 according to the internet sources). I think most of you are from the generation that remembers this show.

(EXTRA BONUS POINTS for those who recognize the clavinet intro - but I suspect most of you on this forum will get it.)

Dream Eternities: A new prog piece

Another piece, which I think I'm about done with, for this independent prog album that I'm working on. No hard rock riffs in this one, although this one started its life with a hard rock riff in the chorus. That got rewritten when I started going over the scratch version of this song that I originally laid down in 2019 and making tweaks to the arrangement. Instead, a more laid back feel. Very clean open voiced guitar tones in the verses and dream pop or shoe gaze guitar tones for the rhythm guitars in the chorus and prechorus. A fretless bass instead of my Rickenbacker or Hamer basses. E Bow guitars, because I play guitar, not flutes or mono synths.
Vocal harmonies. My usual Pink Floyd inspired lead guitar tones. Korg and Arturia modeled analog synths, and G Force M Tron Pro Mellotron.
Also, the Una Corda piano! I've wanted to write some Una Corda into a piece for a couple of years. And I thought Una Corda would sound nice with a fretless bass. So when I decided to use my fretless bass in this song, eventually I hit upon the idea of writing in an Una Corda break.
And a parental advisory: This contains brief bass soloing.

Beautiful. The basswork reminds me of Pekka Pohjola.

I'm almost finished with my new song 'Dad'. I hope to record it tomorrow, when it would have been his birthday. with this song, my new album 'Annus horribilis' will be completed.
