^^ Very nice! I love the piano sounds you're getting. I think you mentioned that you're not a player. How, then, do you compose? Can you hear something by ear and transcribe it for your instruments to play? Fascinating, if so!

Something like that, or mostly I just put notes down and discover it sounds good to my ears. The piano-sound is the acoustic piano from the Nord Electro 2.
If I have a melody in my head, I don't seem to be able to translate it to music.

So I've been spending the last 2 months learning more about mixing and mastering. I've been compiling an album that is reflective of 2020 in all it's misery and glory. Here's my take on the USA's political morass and a glimpse into the forthcoming album. I hope you like it and will look forward to the rest coming some time in the next month or so on Bandcamp. I will only be requesting a nominal fee for the whole shebang to cover some costs because I take so much pleasure in playing and composing and now mastering that I just want to share it with the world.

    Enjoy

Here's another one. It's not remotely proggy. It's a reflective song about the one that got away! We all have 'em! I know it's kind of a cliche, but you gotta do what comes!

Wow, really love this track, Bob. Is that a guitar at 2:22? I thought you did all your stuff via keyboards. It has a real ELP feel to it and the guitar sounds are great, particularly the soloing! Looking forward to hearing more.

Nice song, a bit John Lennon in the vocals.

Yeah, I do hear shades of Johnny in there Joe. A pretty song that one of the Soundcloud promoters wants to make "BIG" for you. Man, if those promoters went away I would probably only have 2 or 3 followers on Soundcloud.

As for my guitars, they are all keyboards. I've gotten a bit better at playing what I think a guitar player might play, but I'm still working on that. I found some settings in the DAW, like a saturator and some different virtual cabinets that change the sound and make it more realistic. Thanks for the comments.

That’s the best emulation of a guitar by a keyboard that I’ve heard. Really scary that the sampling has gotten so good. The chording is easier to ID than the single note lines.

Yeah, those Soundcloud “promoters” are a hoot! I guess Spam finds its way onto everything!

Hi folks, it's been awhile. Been kind of hunkered down in the studio and needed time to myself for awhile.
After 2 months of writing/recording I just finished my latest song Journey of One.
I've been working on a video for it and will share that as well once it's finished.
There is also a remix and video that was done by my friend Marvin Cripps and the drummer who played on this who did the remix.
I would love to share that as well, we actually released that first, but I wanted to finish up my mix and video to share, but wasn't done yet.

The story of pioneers leaving everything to start a new life in the Pacific West.
This song in it's present form could not have been created without the talent of my friends, Marvin Cripps and Bruce Wheelock.
Their participation inspires me, and to me, elevated the creativity of this track to a place I could not have done by myself.
    Forever thankful for their contributions.

    Music&recorded performance Richard Hermans
    Main Vocal and lyrics..Marvin Cripps
    additional Vocals..Richard Hermans
    Drums..Bruce Wheelock
    thanks for listening.

Nice stuff Richard. I like the main theme and the easy guitar and tone of the ending.

Nice job, Richard! Kind of a Genesis vibe with maybe a touch of Ravel! The drums are very well recorded, too, and everything is in a nice balance.

Thanks for listening Bob and for your kind words. My dirty little secret is the guitar is a sample on my Yamaha Montage.
I'm still dealing with numb thumb syndrome and just started to slowly get back into my acoustic.

Thanks Joe, I'll take those comparisons any day.
Bruce played in our original band Plastic Hammer and now owns his own recording studio out in California.

I'll drop the video here in a couple of days, and the remix video later down the road which is a bit more modern.

This song has been one of my most challenging. I had recording issues, gain levels, mixing, you name it! Whenever I thought I was done, I'd find another issue and then it would snowball downhill from there.
At one point I was spending 8-10hr days here in my home studio trying to fix stuff.
MY wife and I laughed at one time saying the studio monkeys were working overtime.

Thank you so much, it means a lot to hear you say that since there were times I almost gave up.
But it seemed to me to be one of those songs that took on a life of it's own, and little issues caused me to go back and fix stuff until it was right.

I’m happy to announce the release of my first album “2020 Suite”. As you can tell by the name it is a compilation of songs written about the events of this past year. I know, I know, the year isn’t over yet, but I anticipate there will be a plethora of albums with a similar theme so I’m getting a jump on them.

The album is available for streaming or digital download on Bandcamp. It is available in both 16 bit and 24 bit HD audio quality.

It is an instrumental work that spans several genre’s from rock, to ambient electronic, to piano and mellow rock, to classical and several things in between, so if you listen to one track and don’t care for it just play the next one and you will hear something in a different vein. Some of you may recognize a few of these from my Soundcloud posts, but everything has been revisited, reimagined, remixed and most importantly mastered for great sound. Definitely better than anything I posted on Soundcloud before, so please give a listen over at Bandcamp and let me know what you think.

    Emjoy,
    Bob

Just listened to several tracks from your BandCamp link, Bob. Great stuff! You really get some nice sounds out of your keyboard rig. I'm impressed by the imaginative production and the parts you come up with. Really good!

Thanks for listening guys. I would love some feedback on which tracks you really liked and why so I can try and focus more on a particular style in the future.

I expect we will be seeing a lot of "rememberance" albums before long as musicians have spent months at home, not touring, just looking for inspiration, and this year has certainly been memorable.
