Yes - UK & Euro tour 2020 - Relayer

"UK TOUR ANNOUNCEMENT: THE ALBUM SERIES 2020

The Album Series 2020 Tour will feature YES' 1974 Relayer album in its entirety together with a selection of other classic YES favourites. (An extensive European tour will be announced soon.)

The show will comprise two sets by the band with full production and a high definition video wall. The first will feature favourite classic tracks from YES’ extensive catalogue. The second will feature Relayer, the seventh studio album by YES, and one of the band’s most distinctive.

Roger Dean will attend every show on the UK and European dates, and will have an exhibition of his iconic art, will be available to chat with fans front of house and sign merch, plus will be in the VIP meet and greets.

Tickets on sale tomorrow, Friday 11th October at 10AM!

Mmh... No Moraz guest appearance, then ? I was looking forward to that happening, especially after (or despite the fact that) his guest appearance on "Soon" at last year's Philadelphia concert turned out to be such a non-event.

There's so much that is potentially problematic with the current line-up doing the entire "Relayer" that I think we're entitled to some scepticism. Alan White has the lengthiest quote in the press announcement but is unlikely to play much of significance on this material as it requires some powerhouse drumming Alan is sadly no longer able to provide. I can't see Downes pulling it off either, which was the reason for my mention of Moraz - his presence I felt was needed to provide the extra 'chops' Downes is lacking. Howe is lacking some of the speed required to pull off the fast riffs and solos in "Sound Chaser", although he can still play great and is irreplaceable anyway. I expect Sherwood, Shellen and Davison to be a fine job, but yeah, sorry for the non-fanboy reaction, I have my reservations about this...

I'm kind of over this version of Yes. no Chris, no Jon, no Rick, no Alan. It just seems it's something that's over but someone keeps putting it on life support.
I just don't get the same feeling as I did, even now when I watch a concert like House of Blues or Live at Montreux it has what I love about Yes and their music.

We did enjoy the Yes tour last fall, and I'm glad we saw them, but I have to say Jon's solo tour show was even better.
And as a Rabin, Wakeman fan, I watch Live at Apollo much more than the last couple of DVDs that were released while Chris was still alive.

I just don't get the point of keeping this version of Yes going. If it were any other band who lost these many members people would not consider them the same band as they were famous for.
It reminds me of these PBS 50's 60's fund drive concerts where they have a bunch of bands, groups from that era and only one real band member is still alive or in the band.

If it works for you and makes you happy that's cool, but for me I'm just no longer interested.

Yes has had so many twists and turns in their careers, that having an a gatekeeping elitist attitude about the band is just kind of pointless now. Yes can do whatever the heck they want.

I AM a total fanboy but I have to agree with your assessment on the members' ability to pull it off. GD is no PM.....AW of today is no AW of yesteryears...both roles are URENT for a powerful presentation of the material.....however....if this comes to the Atlanta GA, USA...I'll be there no matter what as I never saw the Relayer tour.

If Geoff Downes can pull off "Sound Chaser"... particularly the electric piano Moraz-written bit .. I'll have a new respect for him. He did fine with "Gates" in July, so I think anything's possible.

For myself, I've always enjoyed Geoff's keyboard playing, especially with Asia, his solo work as well as Drama and Fly From Here.
I'm also a fan of Billy Sherwood, love his stuff with World Trade, Chris Squire and of course Circa.
Steve Howe, what can you say? love his guitar playing, he's always had his own style and he's a master at what he does.
Jon D has improved greatly, both in his vocals and his stage presence. I would love to hear what he eventually does when he does his own material, with his own band. I'll listen to him and think, ok that sounds a bit like Yes, and then later put on a classic Yes album with Jon Anderson and the difference is night and day. Jon has a tone that can be emulated but not fully achieved. He has a range and fullness to his voice that Jon D just doesn't have.
Of course this is only one man's ears and you may hear it differently. I only add this as to why I've come to the end of this version of Yes and will spend my time listening to the Jon Anderson version.
No right or wrong in opinions here, just what each of us prefer.

Based on what I've heard from the most recent live release however, I'm disappointed and can't help but feel what's happening with Yes is for the retirement fund..*

But to finally see Yes play "Sound Chaser" and "To Be Over" (congrats on finally getting that one into a setlist, Steve Howe) I'll even get on a plane, fly to San Francisco, rent a car and endure the hellish nightmare that is Hwy 101 traffic all the way to the farthest hinterlands of the South Bay so I can sit next to some guy's wife at Mountain Winery who will probably be checking her phone half the time.

It's not just Downes and White I'm worried about. Mr. Howe will no doubt slow the tempos so that he can keep up. I imagine Jon Davison will do a lovely job with To Be Over however, based on his recent performances. Despite reservations, I'd go see this if I were in the UK because I was barely born in 1974 so this is my only chance to see To Be Over and Sound Chaser live, however gimped.
Maybe Steve can borrow Carl Palmer for this tour. He drums circles around Jay and I think the Relayer material suits his style nicely.

I didn't buy it. I bought the Live Topographic one and quite enjoyed it....that was the last Yes show I saw and I thoroughly enjoyed that.

I'll be going because Yes is my favourite band, they are playing in my home town in a fantastic venue, they are playing music I have never seen Yes play live before (i.e. side two of Relayer) and, without wishing to be too morbid, some day soon they are going to be unable to tour any more and I am going to miss them when they are gone. All of this trumps whether or not they have recently released a dodgy live album...
