Big Ears 2020 (March 2020) - Initial lineup info

    https://bigearsfestival.org/lineup/

Prog Ears apparently has an issue with my uploading a (resized to < 200 kb) JPG from my computer, and the version online is WAY too big to include here. So just click the link to see the whole thing.

Here are the ones that have me excited (and trust me, there are plenty more):

    Terry Riley
    Bang on a Can
    Krono Quartet
    Sons of Chipotle (JPJ!)
    The Necks
    Annette Peacock
    Mum
    Tindersticks
    Catarina Barbieri
    Sarah Davachi
    MZM
    Starebaby
    Efterklang
    75 Dollar Bill
    Areni Agbabian
    Damo Suzuki
    Dust

    Oh yeah! Almost overlooked Shabaka

Thundercat is a wildcard for me...I've sampled the tunes before, good stuff but hasn't really held my attention. If I've got the opening and they're playing, I'll definitely pop in to see them After all, that's how The Comet is Coming happened for me last year and they ended up being one of the BEST sets of the festival.

    Of that list, I've seen:

    Starebaby (incredible)
    75 Dollar Bill (incredible)
Harriett Tubman (twice - once pretty good and once meh)
Terry Riley (sadly, the only time I saw the great man, I thought it was mostly poor)
    Jason Moran (meh)
Myra Melford’s Snowy Egret (very good)
Jaimie Branch’s Fly or Die (very good)

    so, lots of good stuff!

I'm assuming Thundercat is one of those 'much better live' acts, I'll check him out unless he clashes with something like The Necks.

Here's my initial take on Big Ears 2020. The mammoth Big Ears Festival 2020 just dropped it's initial line-up. See it here. https://wp.me/p4ZE0X-gGM

I do wish there was more progressive and electronic music there. And it seems to be dipping into the same well as years past.

I dunno about Crowne Plaza but I was just poking around the Hilton Knoxville rates...looks like the Big Ears rate is about $20-30 less than the same rate for another non-holiday weekend.

The cheapest joint on the official booking site was Hotel Knoxville, looks to be a new (or newly renovated) hotel.

If i'm reading this correctly(tell me if i'm wrong),there are only three hotels listed on the Big Ears hotel page and one of them is under construction.Looks like the Hilton is the best bet but man, it ain't cheap.

    I'll keep lookin'.

Where are the other hotels listed?

I don't know if any other hotels near downtown Knoxville have Big Ears rates, beyond the ones listed. I checked hotels.com and several came up, including Crown Plaza...but the rates were all higher than the Big Ear rates for that weekend.

I only checked general rates tho...so, maybe AAA or another org might offer discounted rates?

Sorry! I suck as a booking agent

Lots of good stuff, there are some big genre ( compared to other years ) gaps, so I look forward to additional announcements.
John, are they offering tickets to donors in advance of the 10th?
