RIP Larry Junstrom (.38 Special/Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Junstrom, bassist for Lynyrd Skynyrd from their formation through 1971 (his recordings with the band can be found on their Collectybles album), he's probably best known for being the bass player in .38 Special from 1977 through 2014, playing on all of their albums.

    .38 Special posted this:

The Big Man on the Big Bass has left us.
He rocked arenas all over the world and succeeded in living his dream.
He was truly one of a kind, a congenial traveling companion and a great friend to all with a humorous slant on life that always kept our spirits high - a kind man with a big heart for everyone who crossed his path. There will never be another like him.

We are sending our devoted love, strength and comfort to his wife Thania and Larry’s family. We will miss our friend and partner.
    Larry “L.J.” Junstrom
    1949 - 2019

This is a song that he co-wrote with Don Barnes and Donnie Van Zant for .38 Special:

    Rest in peace, Larry.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973

Lynyrd Skynyrd chimed in with this:

Rest Easy, LJ, you will always be remembered as the big man, on the big bass with the even bigger heart! Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

RIP. And then there was one. The only Lynyrd Skynyrd founding member still living is Gary Rossington.

Not just founding member, but also the only one member pictured on the cover of the first album (and also only one of two pictured on the cover of Street Survivors).
