New Deathprod album "Occulting Disk" coming later this month (!)

Realized earlier that I haven't chucked a fast-sinking stone into this proverbial pond in a while, and maybe this has been mentioned elsewhere but...holy god Deathprod is back with a new album.

For those wondering...no, not prog in the conventional sense. Dark ambient for lack of a better term, not too far removed from the spheres of Lustmord but still a very unique creature. In less than a 24 hour period he was responsible for one of my absolute favorite goofy selfies of all time, and one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen in my life.

    Happy dark listening!

Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Great reviews here in the motherland. He's not nearly as menacing a physical presence in real life as he may appear in sound and on a photo.

Yet there's that story from when a (then) close friend of mine - who was also an educated noise artist - met H. Sten sometime during the late 90s and came back utterly offended at how "arrogant" a "besserwisser" he apparently acted. Turned out ol' Helge wasn't really that interested in my (then) buddy's presentation of himself - to which I would later be forced to concur wholeheartedly.

    Looking forward to hearing this.

He was nothing but kind and polite to me when I approached him at Big Ears. And that show, my god that show...

I haven't received my copy in the mail yet but expect it to arrive very soon. The best kind of dark times ahead...

    Indeed.

You were such a geeky fanboy at that meeting.

What a show. Definitely the loudest I've ever seen. Pretty sure the paint was peeling off of the walls of the Tennessee Theatre.

The new album is great. Vinyl arrived yesterday and sounds incredible cranked up. Love the liner notes from Will Oldham.

He doesn't cover any new ground on this one in comparison to his previous albums, but it's a worthy addition to his catalogue of releases. In conctant rotation at my home during nightime.

He's performing the whole thing on the main stage at the opera here in Oslo on November 10. The opera! opera.jpg

Hell, not even Steve Wislon or Yes would get to perform there.

Oh man, that would be an amazing show to see

Still waiting on my copy of the album to arrive from across the pond, very excited for that first listen sometime soon...

I followed my kid to school this morning, and on the way we passed one of the grand posters of the event - a completely straight black affair with sparse script in elementary pale fonts. I pointed to it and told him: "That's the bearded man in the window right across the back-yard, the one married to the singing lady with the pretty white hair who says 'hello!' and smiles at us on passing!"

The 10-y.o. looked at the poster and promptly uttered: "But is he opera?"

I mean, "not prog" is one thing but "not opera" another one entirely.

What is opera? And, are we talking small o or big O?

Dude, if you're new to the wonderful world of Deathprod, may I politely point you towards the following: https://deathprod.bandcamp.com/album/treetop-drive

Still my own personal favorite from the man. Like an alternate/demented score to The Seventh Seal.

    Never heard of him, thanks.

Very interested. I see he worked on a tribute to Arne Nordheim and composing music for Harry Partch’s instruments among other things so he come with a good provenance as far as I'm concerned. Listening now online. Wonder why have I never heard of Deathprod or Helge Sten? I guess he doesn't penetrate the less chic realms of socially-crippled, old-fart, progster basement dwellers...

Sweet, will investigate, thx man. I was loving the new one in headphones last night in the (almost) dark. A nice buzz didn't hurt either.
