    I have this one

    https://www.amazon.com/Venture-Horiz...ef_=ast_sto_dp

it's been full for a few years now so I have newer CDs in boxes marked "need to listen to"
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

When I run out of space I've been known to slice open one side of a soda 12-pack and reinforce it with duct tape for stuff awaiting a reorganization project. Sometimes they stay that way for more than a year...

Oh yes, "shock" is definitely the right word.

I'm thinking you never ran out of room because you have never moved - my CD collection would be this size but having moved at least 20 times since I started buying CDs (a few moves from country to country), lots of CDs ended up as casualties.

I would get an appraisal of your collection, just for the fun of having an idea what it's worth for insurance maybe?

Actually, we bought this house 3 years ago and moved in 2 years ago -- AFTER I had a custom-built music room added. I built shelves I thought I would NEVER be able to fill up... and filled 'em up in 6 months.

Now... what am I supposed to do? Move again?

Ha! I thought I was bad. We bought a house with a 2 car garage and could never use the garage for cars because with a finished basement, the garage is the only place for all the tools 'n stuff, so several years later I built a shed for the stuff. After a couple of years we had a 2 car garage full of stuff and a shed full of stuff. The obvious solution: a second shed. Now we have 2 sheds and a 2 car garage full of stuff. I was right; I am bad.

You're not 'bad' until you car is full too.

    DAAMMMNNNNN!

That's probably the most common reaction. A CD store in your own man cave. Nice!

I’m almost finished my library room but it doesn’t leave me with much extra room for growing.

Every time my wife tells me I have way too many CDs I will show her your collection. By the way that looks awesome.

And every time my wife complains about the size of my collection, I'll remind her she could move to Saskatoon.

Nah. Just tell her "size matters."

So I’ve contacted a couple of local shelf maker people to solve my storage problem. I have a whole wall in my office for a built in and need to store about 1500 CDs, forty or so box sets and a dozen of the big boxes (think KC 50th editions).

How much would be too much? One guy estimated 7k. I’m sure it would look good, but ...

Depends on materials and craftsmanship. Highly finished oak with decorative trim and hidden connectors? Sounds about right.

I built mine out of cedar fence boards for about 1/100th that.

^Yeah. That’s what the guy is selling. His stuff looks good.

I have no mechanical ability, so I’m unable to make anything myself.

Yeah, all I had was lumber, drywall screws, stain and varnish or some other clear coat, I don't recall, and cost was a pittance. Even with it being a large wall unit. This winter I'll be expanding it to the adjacent walls.

Here's a look at part of my collection in my art studio. There are several smaller shelves around the house that I made at work out of clear vivak that I use to separate genres like surf music, sunshine pop, rockabilly, etc...
