Always.
Killer, School's Out and BDB in particular. The theatrical shock-rock-glam-slam idea was quite arty and coherent with the band back then.
Not so much their ensuing stuff though, and absolutely not the solo stuff. Those 80s releases have to be some of the worst records I've ever owned.
"Improvisation is not an excuse for musical laziness" - Fred Frith
"[...] things that we never dreamed of doing in Crimson or in any band that I've been in," - Tony Levin speaking of SGM
Big fan of the early Alice Cooper Band. The first 4 are by far my favorite-"Pretties for You", "Easy Action", "Love it to Death", and "Killler". "Billion Dollar Babies" and "School's Out" are really good as well. Once he went solo, he kind of lost me. And those 80's albums make me want to barf.
Me, too! I think Alice, with the ACB, turned in some of the finest rock performances of any singer. "Ballad of Dwight Fry" is chillingly mind-blowing.
"Love it to Death", "Killler", "Billion Dollar Babies" and "School's Out" are great albums.
I'd throw in Muscle of Love for good measure..
Solo output was mixed wasn't it...?
I bought Welcome to my Nightmare out of curiosity and found most of it pretty good.. after that.. well not so much..
But like a lot of bands that run out of steam after 4-5 albums.. Alice Cooper had a nice run..
"Killer" is nearly a desert island disc for me. It's been a looong time since I've listened to it. I might just have to dust that baby off.
For the solo work, I still like "Welcome to My Nightmare."
I'd love to see a proper live release from the original band.
"The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you got to load or unload go to the White Zone!"
I remember getting Billion Dollar Babies from our local library when I was about 13, every song is a killer.
TBH, All I would ever need from Alice Cooper is/was the movie-concert Welcome To My Nightmare (not the album), which I'd seen five or six times at midnight séances >> all his best tracks are in there (minus Go To Hell)
Another option is the live album The AC Show (that features GTH)
While I liked some albums as an early or pre-teen, I can only look embarrassingly at that as kid stuff (ala Kiss) today
Probably a new appraisal might be necessary, but it is low priority.

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
Live at the Whisky a-Go-Go 1969 is a great document
love it
i like those early day freakouts
I also have that special BDB release - frankly I thought the band was pretty sloppy live. (By that time, Dick Wagner was backing them up in the studio.) But those ACB bands, except maybe Pretties for You, are gems.
I quite like the first two solo releases (Nightmare and Goes to Hell) with Hunter/Wagner/Levin, and have a fond feeling for Welcome 2 my Nightmare though I recognize it's pretty flawed.
Cobra handling and cocaine use are a bad mix.
Killer, School's Out, Billion Dollar Babies.
Sleeping at home is killing the hotel business!
I lost him after Welcome to my Nightmare
And for some reason never got the chance to check out Muscle of Love

Here in the Phoenix area, it's state law and city ordinance that one must be an Alice Cooper fan.

I fully concur with all the above: The Welcome To My Nightmare movie is an incredible live show with A.C at his peak and the best band he ever hired featuring the stunning 70ies Dick Wagner-Steve Hunter guitar-hero duo (also to be found on Lou Reed's Rock And Roll Animal) :

Yes. Those 4. People try to throw in the canon the first 2 but I was never convinced.
Despite the fact that Alice cashed in commercially big way, I think he's pretty underrated as an artist of the rock medium. His place is right next to guys like Lou Reed and David Bowie imo.
I always enjoyed From The Inside. Some great thoughtful and emotional tracks written with Bernie Taupin.
"From the Inside" is a great disc!
I brought Alice Cooper's School's Out album to school in the 7th grade...and got it confiscated. Catholic School. The inner sleeve was a pair of panties. Evidently, I wasn't thinking.
