I had this weird dream that I was watching MTV one day, circa 1985, and a Richard Thompson video came on! I think the song was called When The Spell Is Broken. I had heard of Richard Thompson before that, probably read about him in Guitar Player or the Harmony Encyclopedia Of Rock Music (or whatever that stupid book was called). But my first time actually hearing one of his songs was on MTV, of all places. Damn, you know a lot of people gripe about how MTV "ruined everything", but there's a whole truckload of stuff I got exposed to via MTV:
