New Steve Miller Band Box Set

A pretty cool box of Steve Miller Band's music is coming in October. The set includes live versions, demos, rehearsals and outtakes; five of the songs have never been released in any form, including a 12-minute "work-in-progress suite" for "Fly Like an Eagle," acoustic versions of “Kow Kow Calculator” and “Seasons,” a big-band performance of "Take the Money and Run" with Jimmie Vaughan and a recording of T-Bone Walker playing "Lollie Lou" in the living room of Miller's childhood home in 1951.

Years ago I heard what seemed like an entire side of one of Steve’s early albums but I never knew what it came from. It was psychedelic and the songs ran together from what I remember. Anyone know what this would be?

^ It's Sailor from 1968. Arguably his single finest release ever.

I still like those first four of his, plus some of Eagle - but I have little time for his other 70s work and never enjoyed his stuff from later on.

^ No. 5 is freaky for sure, but neither this nor the followup possess that "flow" which so marks out the first four; between highly memorable melodies, whims and effects and pure zanity. I always thought Sailor stood pretty much out from the rest anyway; arguably one of the quintessential San Fran-albums from the 60s.

Not really; first four LPs for me. Your Saving Grace has been OOP in CD format for years. Pity.

^ Yepz. "Baby's House" was one of Nicky Hopkins' finest hours as rock keyboardist overall, and "Your Saving Grace" (title track) Tim Davis' best achievement with the band. IMHO.
