    Moron Police (quirky, catchy prog)

    Anyone know this band?

they're a quirky poppy prog band from Norway who have a new album coming out "A Boat on the Sea," their 1st album in 5 years.

The preorder links show August 16th.

This song is the equivalent of “everything but the kitchen sink”. From low-key pop to sprawling power metal, to neck-breaking funk-prog — the works! An unrelenting tour de force of uncompromising songwriting, drenched in melodic sing-along choruses. It encapsulates the broad, genre-breaking songwriting that defines the indefinable Moron Police.

    Not quite indefinable.

You could define them in three words: The Norwegian Bubblemath.

Of course, that sets up the question of who Bubblemath are, and how to define their sound, but that wasn't the original question.

that isn't too bad a description, although I think their music is a little less technical/busy than Bubblemath.

But that makes me want to shoot Kai a message on Facebook about them, lol.

I keep seeing this name pop up. If they sound anything like Bubblemath (and that one song certainly does) that is a very good thing...

Defenders of the Small Yard from 2014 I noticed most who checked it out, enjoyed it.

There's even a tune called "T-Bag Your Grandma" lol

Listening to this now and it is very catchy music. "The Invisible King" is my favorite so far but they are all contain earworm melodies.

This might be their best record. The drumming is crazy fast at points, kind of Jon Theodore-like.

Beware the Blue Skies and Captain Awkward are probably my favorites.

This reminds me a lot of Cheeto's Magazine, which is a positive comparison in my book.

Listened to some of these guys last night. I can hear some of the other bands mentioned, also some Red Hot Chili Peppers and a lot of Freak Kitchen. And some Zappa.

Listening to A Boat on the Sea again right now and I'd forgotten how good this was. I just can't believe how this pushes every positive button. Aside from the great melodies and the way that the Prog is woven into a Pop style, the lyrics are just damned clever.

Really shocking and sad news for the band.

Thore Pettersen, Moron Police's drummer died in a car crash

    https://www.facebook.com/moronpolice...20197768003977

It is with heavy hearts that we have to tell you that our drummer and best friend, Thore Omland Pettersen, passed away yesterday after sustaining fatal injuries in a car accident.
We are in shock. We spent yesterday crying and reminiscing, talking to friends near and far. We come from such a small community that this affects us all so deeply.
There really isn't anything we can say to help heal the loss of someone so dear to us. Words seem meaningless at this point. But for those of you who never had the chance to meet Thore, I'd like to tell you a bit about him:
I first met Thore when I was about 16 years old. Our band was going to play a show in Germany, but our drummer at the time couldn't make it. In comes Thore. And there he stayed.
His skill on the drums was undeniable, but his laugh was nothing short of legendary. He had an iconic way of laughing that would light up any room he was in. It was infectious. It was undeniable. You just had to join in. Thore was wholly unique in that everyone loved him. And I mean everyone. He was incredibly kind and thoughtful and just an enormous amount of fun. The man just exuded sunshine and laughter.
He was my dearest friend and brother. My musical compatriot. My little ball of sunshine and laughter. And the world seems so much darker now without him in it.
He leaves behind a mountain of cherished memories that we will always keep with us, as well as a musical legacy he was very proud of. Even the silly stuff. Particularly the silly stuff.
Our thoughts and condolences goes out to his family in these most horrible of times.
We will always love you, Thore.
    -Sondre, Christian and Lars
