Longform Editions - experimental extended works (sorry, no capes/mellotrons)

I know this thread will sink like the Titanic, but there are a few folks here who I think might really enjoy some of this (Walt, Mike/neuroticdog I am totally looking in your direction but also other folks).

    https://longformeditions.bandcamp.com/

The blurb: "Longform Editions is an ongoing series creating a space of musical discovery for extended pieces of exploratory, expansive and immersive music pieces from around the world, looking to reclaim time and space in the fractured world we live in."

Basically large, extended pieces operating predominantly in atmospheric/drone territory but with considerable diversity between the pieces and artists involved. I don't love everything they release but some of the pieces are fantastic. I'm very happy they're out there, and always take the time to check out their new batches of material.
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Fine, I'll be that guy and even reply to my own thread...this is one of the more recent drops from Longform that really won me over (both musically and for the lovely story behind the music):

That's the other thing I neglected to mention above...I rather appreciate the narratives provided with most of the pieces.

Yay walt Honestly, it's all over the place...there's stuff like the Grody that is just kind of pleasant/beautiful. There are also some wonderfully abstract pieces. This newer one is from Sun Araw and (at least to my naive ears) sounds like the late great Conrad Schnitzler jamming with some dudes in the backroom of a pet store.

This piece is beautiful, and yes, the narratives, in particular this one provides a window of the creator, the creation and the moment.

I found the black dots mesmerizing, especially when I closed my eyes to listen to Sun Araw.

I'll have to check these out when I'm not at work. Been an experimental electronic music composer since 1980 (hence my name "sounds weird"), and have certainly delved into this type of music at times myself, as well as having a large collection of this type of music.

Yep, you were someone else I thought might dig these, and I'm glad you found the thread before it vanished into the ocean of Yes threads

Caught this just before the thread collapsed under the weight of the latest Jon Anderson drama thread.

That one was my favorite as well, along with Kate Carr's "City of Bridges."

Kate Carr has her own label, Flaming Pines, with many many interesting releases on Bandcamp. "Prison Episodes" by Pouya Pour-Amin absolutely blew me away.

And it's nice to know "progressive music" is still being made in 2019 -- we don't all have to be stuck in 1972.

I'm a big fan of The Left Outsides, so when I got notification from Bandcamp that one of the members had contributed a piece to this series, I had to give a listen. And...I was bored by it. Sorry.

Thanks for sharing. The absence of hooks, capes, mellotrons and floating rocks is a bit disturbing but I'm brave enough to go beyond that.

Ooops, almost forgot to respond to yours Yep, it's not melodically-driven on the whole (although some of the pieces IMHO are absolutely melodic in a non-hook kind of way). Nor is it progressive rock (or really, ANY rock). So, it was always going to have limited appeal here and ultimately drop off.

I'm just happy that a handful of folks DID find the thread before that happened, and have enjoyed listening

Or REFRESHING, depending on your viewpoint.

No 'trons perhaps, but the nature of sound here somehow makes me think he actually did wear some kind of cape after all. I can just see him knottin' away underneath that dome of cloth, professory spectacled'n'about to commit toxsonic kompotsnot.
