I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
He was one of the saving graces of Canadian Bacon, Michael Moore's infamously uneven comedy from the early 90's, which also has the distinction of being John Candy's last picture.
The scenes with him and Alan Alda are great. I love the bit where they're looking for someone to start a war with to reinvigorate the US economy, is hilarious:
(slide of Brechnev flashes on screen)
Rip: Dead
(slide of Khomeini flashes on screen)
Rip: (getting slightly agitated) Dead
(slide of..oh, I can't remember who the third one was)
Rip: ALSO DEAD!!!!!!
(slide of Noriegia flashes on screen)
Rip: Well, he's still alive, but we got him down in Florida, making license plates
I also love the exchange where Alan Alda mentions how ridiculous the Grenada invasion was:
Alda: They didn't even wake Reagan!
Rip: We didn't have to!
He was also great as Albert Brooks' advocate in Defending Your Life. "Actually, there is no Hell, but I hear Los Angeles is getting awfully close!"
I recently watched Payday (1974). Rip was great in that movie.
RIP
Also, a cousin of David Torn.
"And your little sister's immaculate virginity wings away on the bony shoulders of a young horse named George who stole surreptitiously into her geography revision."

A wild man off screen. Unique on screen presense. RIP
Loved him as Patches O'Houlihan in Dodgeball.

Looking forward to my day in court.
Rest in peace.
We're trying to build a monument to show that we were here
It won't be visible through the air
And there won't be any shade to cool the monument to prove that we were here. - Gene Parsons, 1973
