Anthony Davis is brilliant. I started listening to him through a couple of collaborative albums with James Newton: Hidden Voices on India Navigation, with George Lewis, Rick Rozie, and Pheeroan akLaff, and Crystal Texts on Moers Music, a duo set. I see his albums around a lot; I just picked up a couple of those Gramavision LPs on vinyl quite recently, as well as Lady of the Mirrors on India Navigation.

Those records were very very important to me when they were new.

    Glad you’re digging them.

I’m very happy I got to see Episteme in concert circa 1987.

Just read in the New Yorker about a new opera or musical theater piece he composed.

I know who he is, but never heard him until a few minutes ago. I need to fix that.

Now *there* is someone I've not heard in quite a while. Episteme is a classic and Of Blues & Dreams is also quite good. I recall liking Hemispheres as well. Other material I have heard never quite held up the same interest.

That said, there's lots of top shelf avant-garde jazz from artists that is underecognized and/or ignored from that period (1977-1986 or so) worth exploring.

Clippers won 48 games last year, Lakers won 37, so we'll see who "improves" more...

IIRC, I first heard him on Chico Freeman's Kings of Mali and saw him a few times in the 70s. I've got him on a number of LPs as sideman but never picked up any of his things.
